Advanced umpires really are at the peak of their game. Umpires at this level typically umpire in the top division of domestic league hockey matches and often at international level.

They are experienced umpires with drive, aspiration, and specific qualities however some can be honed over time. With an acute awareness of the finite detail of people skills, and an exceptional knowledge of the rules, the top umpires make a positive difference to the sport.

Scotland has a great reputation for producing international umpires, and many have been involved in Olympic and Commonwealth Games matches, as well as FIH and EHF tournaments across the world.
