Scotland U21 Women face England in the Eurohockey Championship
Pool A sees Scotland face England, Netherlands, and Spain in group stage of the U21 Eurohockey Championship!
The opening game of the tournament saw Scotland unable to overcome England, but the team fought relentlessly to defend a strong attacking side.
The game also marked first caps for Tabitha Peck, Ava Graham, Eva-Rose Ferguson, Jenna Park and Ruby Crawford!
The first quarter saw both sides settle into their opening games of the tournament, with neither team able to gain a clear advantage in possession or break through the oppositions defence. England made their breakthrough shortly after the first interval, scoring a penalty corner in the 21st-minute to put Scotland on an early backfoot. Scotland responded with a penalty corner opportunity, but England’s defence held firm, leaving Scotland at a 2-0 loss at half time.
The second half saw wave after wave of English penalty corners, with Scotland’s defence standing strong and blocking five of England’s seven attempts. Lexie Macmillan scored a crucial goal to push Scotland back within one of England with a 47th-minute field goal.
The Scottish side fought hard for an equaliser, but England secured the final goal with a 58th-minute penalty corner, bringing the final score to 3-1.
After the first day of competition, Scotland sit 3rd in Pool A. They return to face Spain at 7:15pm tomorrow, we wish them luck! This is streamed on Eurohockey TV!
