Silver Club Development Day
On Sunday 12th June, the first Silver Club Development Day took place with 19 volunteers attending, representing 11 clubs from all over Scotland. The event was offered as part of the rewards package for achieving silver level club accreditation, with the purpose of the day being to bring clubs together to share good practice and to offer some new ideas for implementing at clubs. Clubs also received lunch and travel expenses.
The morning session was a workshop in Volunteer Management, delivered by Lindsey Booth and Pam Dewar from Sportscotland. Topics covered in this section included volunteer recruitment, retention and rewarding. With group work and discussions, clubs had the opportunity to share ideas, experiences and learn some new recruitment methods as well as how to ensure volunteers feel supported.
Douglas McEwan, from accreditation sponsors Arthur J Gallagher, then gave a short presentation on the company and the various ways that clubs can benefit from what they have to offer, including insurance of equipment and facilities. Douglas also stayed to present the awards to the clubs.
After lunch there was a question and answer session with Gordon Shepherd, Senior Women’s Head Coach, and Becky Ward, Team Captain. This was an opportunity for clubs to learn more about the national programme and the various technologies involved to ensure the fitness of the squad. Gordon also spoke of the mind-set required from players to achieve the standard to play for their country. Clubs were then invited to stay and watch the Senior Women’s training session.
Thank you to the clubs who attended and fully engaged in all parts of the day: Ardrossan, Aberdeen Bon Accord, Civil Service Ladies, Dumfries, Dunfermline Carnegie, Fidra Lions, Fjordhus Reivers, Greenock Morton, Grove Menzieshill, Uddingston and Western Wildcats.
A massive thank you to Arthur J Gallagher for providing sponsorship for the accreditation programme and allowing events like this to be offered to help support and develop stronger clubs. If you would like more information on insurance for clubs, please contact Douglas McEwan [email protected]
