Scotland loses to France U18 Boys’ EuroHockey Championship in Lille
Host nation France defeated Scotland 6-1 at the U18 Boys’ EuroHockey Championship in Lille.
Scotland started well with crisp passing and forward thinking intent, but the host side soon settled into a dangerous groove.
A spectacular double save by Lewis McGuiness in goal for Scotland stopped the French from taking the lead.
Save after save from McGuinness kept Scotland in the match as the home side charged forward for goals.
As the quarter came to a close France finally found the net. Scotland was carved open down the right and Luca Scholz popped up unchallenged at the far post to sweep the ball into the goal for 1-0.
On the hooter France pummelled through the Scots back line and Achille Loussif scooped the ball home to make it 2-0.
Scotland settled into the contest in the second quarter and played some neat hockey but the French defence was resolute. As the quarter reached an end France stepped up the pace and bagged a first through a low thunderbolt by Dimitri Crepy-Gueniot for 3-0.
In the blink of an eye Scotland burst forward and won a stroke. Ben Moulson stepped up and slammed the ball into the top right corner for 3-1.
A penalty stroke for France in the third quarter was fired home by Malo Martinache for 4-1. Then a slick passing attack carved Scotland open and Joseph Michaelis slipped it into the net for 5-1.
In the final quarter the French opened up Scotland down the left and created a tap in for Noah Metzke for 6-1, which was how it ended.
