Sensational Scotland beat Switzerland 6-0 in men’s EuroHockey Championship II
A sensational performance by Scotland saw them beat Switzerland 6-0 at Men’s EuroHockey Championship II in Gniezno.
Scotland dominated the ball from the first whistle and Rob Field put Scotland 1-0 ahead in the opening quarter. A powerful run down the right by Andy McConnell created the chance for Field to force the ball home from close range.
A penalty stroke was awarded to Scotland minutes later after a penalty corner struck a foot on the line. Alan Forsyth stepped up to fizz the ball into the bottom right corner for 2-0.
Scotland had a scare on the whistle when Switzerland hit the crossbar but Scotland went into the second quarter with a two goal lead.
Cammy Golden was denied a goal in the second quarter after a swift counter attack but the keeper stood tall and saved well. Scotland again controlled the play but found the Swiss defence holding strong.
Into the second half and another great finish by Forsyth put Scotland 3-0 ahead. The ball was zipped into the circle from the right and Forsyth converted from close range to further Scotland’s advantage.
The Scots had their tales up and Robbie Shepherdson made it 4-0 with a penalty corner rebound.
Forsyth made it 5-0 right at the end of the quarter when he sunk another penalty stroke for his hat-trick.
Early in the fourth quarter Scotland was awarded another stroke and this time a spectacular diving save low to the left denied Forsyth another goal.
Struan Walker then scored a sensational goal to make it 6-0 with a strike into the top left corner on the reverse. It finished 6-0 and the result ensures Scotland a semi-final spot at Men’s EuroHockey Championship II.
