Results to Form in the Weekend’s Premiership

Watsonians were first out of the stalls and showed some early form with a 6-0 home win over Western Wildcats. The catalyst was a hat-trick from Ellie O’Connor while the other strikes came from Katie Crawford, Milly Berndes-Cade and Katherine Holdgate. No sign of releasing the Premiership title here.

Clydesdale Western also looked good with an 8-2 win over Edinburgh University, who came third in last season’s Premiership. Outstanding was Scotland player Jenny Eadie with four, while Bronwyn Shields, Millie Steiger, Emma Tennant, a recruit from GHK, and the returning Heather O’Brien all contributed.

A double from Lucy Williamson was behind GHK’s 2-1 win over Glasgow University, Chrissie Clark replied for the students.

At Bothwell Castle, Uddingston and St Andrews University fought out a 1-1 draw, Lexi MacMillan opened with a chip over the keeper to put Uddy one up but later in the game Michigan’s Emmy Tran levelled at a penalty corner.

Meanwhile up in Aberdeen, Grange laid out their stall for this season with a 4-0 win.

In the Open/Men’s competition, five teams rest on six points after two games while the rest are in the wake.

Edinburgh University’s defence of their inaugural Premier League title continues unabated, today they were 3-1 winners over Grange. The students seemed to have the game over by the interval with a three-goal lead, Keir Robb opened, then Jamie Golden added a second at a penalty corner and Ollie Wilson got the next. The second half was a much more even affair but it wasn’t until the closing minutes that Grange got their consolation with a penalty corner conversion from Albert Rowling.

Western Wildcats were comfortable 6-0 winners over Kelburne at Auchenhowie. They purred into a four-goal lead at the interval, Robbie Molloy opened in eight minutes, followed by a penalty corner from Luc Hermson and then Fraser Calder scored from open play with Andrew Lochrin finishing the half with a rebound strike at another set piece. Two further goals followed after the break, through Rob Harwood and Fraser Moran.

Watsonians were even more comfortable victors today, eight goals without reply over Inverleith. In the goal mix there was a hat-trick for Daan Schenck while the others were all singles from new signing Euan Burgess, David Clark, Lynden Ross, Harry Yarr and finally, Guy Rowson.

At Bothwell Castle, Uddingston cruised to a 4-0 win over Grove Menzieshill. Yet it was goalless at half-time, although Uddy were the dominant force with three penalty corners, but no goals to show. Early in the second half the home side finally struck, Euan Gilmour sunk a deflection from an assist by Angus Sinclair, then minutes later Gilmour found the net from the top of the circle with the help of Ewan Hutchinson. That is how the score stood until near the end when Hutchinson deflected a ball from Gilmour into the roof of the net. In the final seconds Gilmour collected his hat-trick with a close-range finish after a penalty corner switch took out the Grove Menzieshill defence.

Clydesdale are the other team on six points after a narrow 4-3 win at Hillhead in a game that pulsated one way and the other before the Dale grabbing the winner in the final moments. For Clydesdale, Ethan Robertson, Ian King, Joel Reid and Luke Bannerman were on target while Dan Squires, Amar Sagoo and Fergus Allan replied for the home side.

However, there can be no doubting the performance of the day – the ESM Lions roared and slotted 16 goals past Dunfermline Carnegie, and that without reply. Ex-Grange player, Livio Belotti, notched four of them and there was a hat-trick for Alex Thomson.  Tobi Toohey, Jack Collister and Patrick Crookshanks all picked up doubles, and not to be forgotten in the carnage there were single goals for Jamie Hogarth, Thomas McInroy and Elliott Sandison. Lions Sam Tait said:  “We moved the ball well, creating several chances, and it`s nice to see new additions getting on the scoresheet.”

The Lions should be on firm ground if goal difference becomes an issue later in the tournament
