Midland District event proves hit with local youngsters
The launch of Midland District’s new youth programme has proven to be a hit with local youngsters after over 160 players took part in an indoor hockey event at the Douglas Sports Centre in Dundee yesterday.
Yesterday’s activities were focused around U10s and U12s teams with nine clubs represented and 14 teams entering in both age groups. The event was supported by upwards of 25 coaches, volunteers, parent-helpers and umpires, with over 250 parents / family members in attendance.
Grove Menzieshill HC were the first delivery club and did a fantastic job of hosting the event, their committed and hardworking volunteers ensured everyone involved had a great experience at what was in the most part their first experience of playing in a hockey event as part of a club.

The District’s youth programme is being delivered in partnership with committee members, local clubs, Scottish Hockey, and is funded by Awards for All.
The programme will provide monthly fixtures for U10, U12 and U14 players which will further develop the good work already going on in local clubs across the district.
The format of the programme is supported by nine delivery clubs, who will host an event at their home venue on the last Sunday of each month to provide a more structured approach to junior hockey across the district. The events are 100% focused on participation and development with no scores recorded at any age group.
Feedback received from everyone involved has been extremely positive and everyone is now looking forward to the next event scheduled to take place in March.
