Good luck to Scottish Hockey’s Megan Cunningham

Megan Cunningham

Scottish Hockey would like to wish our Office Administrator, Megan Cunningham, good luck as she takes a six-month sabbatical to train full time with Scotland’s women’s football team as part of preparations for UEFA Euro 2017 finals in the Netherlands this summer – Scotland’s first ever major women’s football tournament.

Megan, a goalkeeper for Celtic and Scotland, joined Scottish Hockey last year and has been a great addition. Everybody at Scottish Hockey is delighted that Megan has been selected as part of Scotland’s wider squad for full time training and we wish her well for the experience, and her bid for selection for the tournament. We look forward to supporting the team in the summer.

Scottish Hockey CEO David Sweetman said, “Right from the start, when Megan joined us for a day as a volunteer at an event, I have been really impressed by the commitment and enthusiasm that Megan has shown in her role within Scottish Hockey – she is a valuable member of our team. It has been clear to us all that from her early morning gym sessions, to her protein enriched carrot cake, she has been fully committed and driven to becoming an international athlete.

“We are delighted that she has been picked as part of the wider squad for the Scottish women’s football team as they prepare for the European Championships for the first time. We wish Megan, and the squad, all the best for their full time training as well as the competition in the summer. We look forward to welcoming Megan back just in time for our own European Championships.”

Megan Cunningham said, “I’m honoured and really excited to be given the opportunity to experience a full-time training environment in an attempt to try and make one of the 23 player slots going to Holland in the summer. This was an unexpected bonus and although I am looking forward to getting more time to focus on my football, I am also going to miss everyone in the office.

“Since I started at Scottish Hockey I have loved being part of the team and I am really going to miss everyone over the next six months. I will still be visiting and bringing in my baking goods when I can, even the healthier options whether they’re wanted or not! I want to thank Scottish Hockey for being so supportive towards this adventure and I look forward to the up and coming challenge.”

To send Megan off we thought it would be fun to set a hockey/football goalkeeper challenge, and since Megan is not the only goalkeeper in the Scottish Hockey office we arranged a competition between Megan and Scottish Hockey’s Head of Domestic Game, Jamie Frail, who plays in goal for Hillhead Hockey Club. You can see the challenge in the video below. Please join us in wishing Megan all the very best for the next six months.
