For young people who are interested in developing as an umpire, we have a Youth Umpire Award to introduce you to the sport.  The training and practical umpiring can be incorporated into a Duke of Edinburgh Award through School or Club matches.

The purpose of the award is to provide young people with an opportunity to develop a better understanding of umpiring. You’ll also learn umpire techniques and the rules for modified games e.g. Fun Fours, Super Sixes and Eights.

Getting Started

The award is aimed at young players and students throughout the country.

Anyone from 12 to 18 years old, who has a basic knowledge of hockey will learn from completing the award.

All registered schools, clubs and other groups are able to access the award. It can be delivered in either modular format or across part of a day.

Those completing the assessment, both the theory and practical sections, will be able to umpire youth hockey games.
