New Brave Academy Development Series Commences

This weekend see the start of the competitive element of the girls’ Brave Academy Programme in Dundee, following the wash-out of the boys’ first weekend of competition in Glasgow last Sunday.

The new format sees the three Academy Centres face off against each other over three fifteen minute thirds, with each team playing two matches in the day. The matches between the Dundee Devils, Glasgow Thunder and Edinburgh Lightning Academy Centres will be played at both Emerging and Aspiring Stage Groups. The matches are part of a three weekend series for both genders being played prior to the winter break for outdoor hockey.

Andy Tennant, Head of Performance, is looking forward to seeing the action get underway, “The format and management of these matches is designed to provide players with the space and opportunity to learn and develop their skill sets and apply the BRAVE principles upon which the Academy Centres are based. While the Scottish Hockey talent and performance system will always promote competition – and athletes with a strong desire to compete and win, Scottish Hockey are keen to emphasise the opportunities these matches provide for player development and the ability to learn, rather than the result. We strongly believe that this will allow us to compete and win when it really matters, in future events on the international stage.”
