Hat-trick of hat-tricks for Scotland men while Wales strike eight at EuroHockey qualifiers in Uddingston
Scotland 9-0 Gibraltar
Scotland men clocked up a superb 9-0 victory over Gibraltar to kick-start their EuroHockey Qualifier D campaign in Uddingston. There were hat tricks for Jamie Golden; Struan Walker and Rob Harwood in what was a comprehensive performance.
The Scots took the lead early in the opening quarter through a Jamie Golden penalty corner high into the net to make it 1-0.
Rob Harwood quickly followed up with Scotland’s second after some good work down the left gave the forward a tap-in for 2-0.
In the second quarter Scotland found the net again. A reverse stick shot by Struan Walker into the roof of the net made it 3-0 for Scotland, before Walker struck again to make it 4-0 with a drag flick.
There was a second for Harwood as Scotland men went 5-0 ahead against Gibraltar swiftly followed by a hat-trick for Struan Walker for 6-0.
Into the second half and Golden made it 7-0 for Scotland with a fierce penalty corner into the bottom left corner.
In the final quarter Golden secured his hat-trick when he struck on a counter to make it 8-0 before Harwood also secured his hat-trick when he made it 9-0. Next up Scotland face Wales in day two of the EuroHockey Qualifiers at Uddingston.

Wales 8-0 Switzerland
Wales won their opening match of Men’s EuroHockey Qualifier D in Uddingston 8-0 against Switzerland.
Wales got off to a great start and took an early lead when Rupert Shipperley struck home from a penalty corner to make it 1-0.
Switzerland had a chance of their own with a penalty corner but the effort was snuffed out by the Welsh defence, and the ball cleared.
Wales went 2-0 ahead when Jolyon Morgan popped up at the far post to score into an empty net at the second phase of a penalty corner.
Gareth Furlong scored back-to-back penalty corners to put Wales 4-0 ahead before half time.
In the second half Wales added to their advantage when Shipperley bagged his second and his team’s fifth, before Furlong completed his hat-trick from the penalty spot for 6-0.
Shipperley than bagged his hat trick in the final quarter for Wales to go 7-0 ahead before Furlong grabbed his fourth to make it 8-0 right at the end of the match.
