Eskvale Hockey Club take the pitch to the player!

Eskvale Hockey Club received an extra special delivery last week from Greenfields, a world leader in sports turf, in the shape of a demonstration pitch.
The field hockey specialists, who supplied the 2014 FIH Hockey World Cup pitches, delivered a 4m x 3.5m off-cut of turf all the way from the company’s factory in Genemuiden, Netherlands.
The club plan to create and transport a portable mini goal area with nets around the local Midlothian area, including main shopping areas, Gala Days, and Fresher’s Weeks, so people can try out dribbling and shooting. The main aim is to attract new players to the club.
The project came about thanks to club members Jane Carmichael and John McCrossan attending a recent meeting with Midlothian Council to discuss a second artificial pitch at Lasswade Centre.  Also present was Greenfields Commercial Director Paul Milton.
After the meeting the club reps spoke with Paul about the aspirations of Eskvale, including player recruitment and raising the club’s profile in the community.  Part of this plan would be to take come-and-try-sessions to the public rather than just hoping they would approach the club.  Paul then offered to see if there was some way that Greenfields could help with this.  A few days later it was arranged for an off-cut of artificial turf be delivered to Eskvale.
A Club spokesperson stated “We are extremely grateful to Greenfields for helping Eskvale HC out like this.  This is a fantastic opportunity for us to go out into Midlothian to recruit players and raise our profile.  It is always difficult to come up with original ideas to get noticed but this should help us achieve that.”
