England claim four successes in Women’s Masters Home Nations
The annual three-day Women’s Masters Home Nations tournament played was at Peffermill on 24th-26th June, and delivered some exciting and competitive masters hockey. Most of the success went to England who won four of the age categories. The exception was the Over 40s where the spirited Irish team were victorious.
In the Masters Over 40s tournament Ireland were the victors, finishing on seven points following a 1-0 win over England; a 2-0 win over Scotland; and a 0-0 draw with Wales. They were followed by high-scoring England in second place who despite having the best goal-difference trailed to Ireland due to a 1-0 defeat to the eventual champions. The table was propped up by Scotland with Wales finishing third.
England were the winners of the Over 45s tournament, taking maximum points in two 4-2 victories over Ireland and Wales; and a 4-2 win over Scotland. Wales finished second – recording a sensational 5-1 victory over Ireland in the process who finished third in the table with Scotland in fourth.
England again secured maximum points in the Over 50s tournament, including a dominant 9-1 win over Wales. Scotland finished in second place with a 4-0 victory over Wales; a 1-1 draw with Ireland; and 4-2 defeat to England. Ireland finished third and Wales propped up the table in fourth.
The Over 55s competition finished with England again claiming maximum points and finishing top of the table. They secured two 5-1 victories over Scotland and Ireland and a 2-0 win over Wales. Scotland, Ireland and Wales all finished on three points with Wales claiming second spot on goal difference, ahead of Scotland in third and Ireland in fourth.
The Over 60s tournament saw a head-to-head between Scotland and England with the English claiming maximum points in 5-0 and 4-0 victories.
