Edinburgh University lose to Czech side Rakovnik
EDINBURGH UNIVERSITY 2-4 RAKOVNIK (CZECH REPUBLIC)
Edinburgh University Women`s drive to make Monday`s final and promotion took a dent when they went down 4-2 to Czech side Rakovnik.
But all is not lost. The students are still in second spot despite this reversal and they can still push into the final. But that would mean beating Irish side UCD by more than two goals. It will be a challenging task considering the Irish have yet to concede a goal in the tournament.
In the following game UCD were 1-0 winners over Welsh side Swansea for their second win over the competition.
Not the best of starts for the Edinburgh students when Klara Hvezdova put Rakovnik a goal up in only four minutes
But the Scots retaliated in the second quarter with an open play goal from Harriet Platt. Just when it looked as if half-time would be reached at 1-1 the Czechs took the lead again through Anna Vorlova at a penalty corner.
Just two minutes into the second half the same player struck again from open play to give the Czechs a comfortable 3-1 lead.
The final quarter seemed to provide a comeback for Edinburgh as Itske Hooftman reduced the deficit to a single goal with a penalty corner strike. But the Czechs were not to be denied their victory with a crucial fourth goal through Veronika Pribikova – and there was no way back for the Scots.
