Development Newsletter – May 2026

Affiliation: As we wind down for the season, affiliation for next season begins! Affiliation window for 2026-27 open June 1st and closes June 30th and will be the focal point of club activity over the next few weeks. Clubs will be required to update their Sport80 profiles & submit updated documents in line with the our club compliance standards. For more info on club compliance please visit the website here.

We also have new individual compliance standards in place reflecting Disclosure Scotland’s regulated roles. For more information on what each role is and compliance needs please visit the website here. Have a look out for our posts on the Scottish Hockey social media pages – information on what the roles are and how to achieve the requirements will be posted weekly.

The Development Team will host an Affiliation – ‘What you need to know’ webinar on Wednesday 3rd June at 7pm. This will go through all the club & individual compliance requirements, a walk-through of Sport80 & how to complete uploads etc as well as demonstrating how to get onto GB safe Hockey, Club Hub and CWPS/CWPO courses. Clubs can sign up for this via Sport80 here.

With a new season approaching, is your club safe?

Scottish Hockey have supported over 200+ PVG applications so far in 2026. A huge thank you to those who have completed the process and are now legally eligible to work with their members in club settings.

Few things for Safeguarding officers to note:

  • If you have changed safeguarding officer, please ensure they have completed the CWPO training, the club safeguarding policy has their new details and the PVG agreement & contracts forms are all updated.
  • When processing PVGs for your members please remind them to look out for the disclosure Scotland link – it’s only live for 2 weeks!
  • Courses for CWPS and CWPO training can be found on the Sportscotland training page here. There are plenty course to choose from, some via other governing bodies so please ensure you have the relevant courses completed before the 30th June!!

All information on Safe Sport can be found on our website here. Please also attend the Webinar on the 3rd of June for more information.

2026 brings changes to Coach Development

A review of GB Hockey Coaching offer was held last year and names, structure and content has been changed in every ‘offer’. E-learning has been created, workshops are now shorter and courses have been recreated.

Workshops (Coaching Junior Hockey and Coaching Club Teams) provide coaches (Over 16) with more ideas to discuss as well as opportunities to share their own experiences.

The Introduction to Hockey Coaching Course targets those assisting delivery and now involves e-learning, tasks and 2 facilitated online sessions (2.5 hours each).

The 2 coaching courses for lead coaching have new names Coach Course (lead individual sessions) and Lead Coach Course (lead a programme).  These now align with new Professional Standards for the sector.  The courses involve content based on Self, Player, Environment and Game through modular delivery using e-learning, facilitated sessions and practical sessions to develop new knowledge and enhance delivery.

A Coach Course has been planned for June and July.  Register via Sport80 for 11th June when Scotland roll out the new Coach Course with a self module online via zoom.

Club Hub: Club Hub is currently undergoing an update in line with the new strategy & affiliation requirements for clubs. This will be ready in time for the affiliation open date 1st June. We urge clubs to utilise this platform throughout the season supporting any governance development or to refresh knowledge especially if new committee members are appointed. More information on Club Hub can be found here.

Events: Scottish Hockey’s AGM takes place on Monday 15th June online. Clubs need to ensure their trustees on sport80 are current and updated on their Sport80 profile as Scottish hockey will send invites & communications through these designated representatives. You can see what events are coming up by checking out our events page here
