Inverleith to make up ground

Grove Menzieshill may have opened up a six point gap
over Inverleith at the top of the Subway indoor national league,
but that advantage could be halved if the Edinburgh side win their
fixtures against Glynhill Kelburne, VWS Dundee Wanderers and
Greaves Clydesdale this weekend.

“All three sides have demonstrated over the last two weekends
that they can be difficult to beat, however we look forward to the
challenge,” said Stuart Neave, Inverleith`s coach.

Inverleith are favourites to achieve the nine points on offer,
but there is a banana skin look about the occasion, and no more so
than the mercurial Kelburne.   With the talent of Gareth
Hall, Alan Forsyth, Michael Bremner, Willie Marshall, and possibly
Mark Ralph in the ranks, even if consistency is lacking, there is
always the potential of a rogue result.  Last weekend, for
example, the Paisley outfit succumbed to both Clydesdale and
Western Wildcats, then held league leaders Menzieshill to a narrow
7-6 victory.  Three games in a day is a gruelling session, and
even Clydesdale in the final game may not be a foregone
conclusion.

However, Inverleith overcame a nervy initial two fixtures to see
off both Western Wildcats and CALA Edinburgh in style last weekend,
17 goals scored and none conceded, more the stuff of
champions.  “Overall very happy that we have improved on the
opening weekend, but will be looking to step up again this weekend
as we have three testing games,” said Neave.

Grove Menzieshill`s coach Bruce Cuthill was reasonably satisfied
with the nine points and the squad`s performance in last weekend`s
three matches, but bemoaned the loss of unnecessary goals through
lapses in concentration.

The league leaders should have little difficulty in seeing off
bottom side CALA Edinburgh, but Cuthill sees potential danger in
the second match against the Wildcats.   “Teams will
always raise their game against Menzieshill and I envisage two hard
games next weekend, especially Western who have dangerous
individuals in Joe and Dougie Simpson, Scott McCartney and Steven
Percy, who can all score goals.”

There is not much to choose between the four sides in mid-table
separated by a single point, but third placed Grange could break
away if they can take six points from their games against Dundee
Wanderers and Kelburne.  Grange have a well balanced side
under the coaching aegis of David Knipe and the signing of former
Dundee Wanderers` playmaker Allan Law should provide some sparkle
in the midfield.

There is already a relegation feel about the confrontation
between bottom sides CALA Edinburgh and Wanderers, the latter
having a three point advantage.  CALA must start picking up
points if they are not to become irrevocably detached, they are
unlike to take much from Menzieshill, but later games against
Wanderers and Clydesdale have more potential.   CALA have
struggled to come to terms with life in the top flight in their
four games so far, the Edinburgh outfit have only scored five times
and conceded 35 goals in the process, and no points on the
board.

Clydesdale bounced off bottom of the table with back to back
wins over Kelburne and Wanderers last weekend, courtesy of
hat-tricks in both encounters by Ciaran Crawford and Adam
Bain.  There is potential for Alistair Bleach`s charges to
gather more points against CALA and the Wildcats on Saturday,
although a win against Inverleith in their final game could be a
bridge too far.
