Inverleith and Menzieshill to meet again
GROVE MENZIESHILL INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT SPONSORED BY INTERVENTION RENTALS LTD
DUNDEE INTERNATIONAL SPORT CENTRE – 29-30 DECEMBER 2012
Inverleith coach Stuart Neave is hoping to continue his side`s win ethic by capturing the annual Invervention Rentals Grove Menziehill indoor tournament in Dundee tomorrow. So far this indoor season Inverleith are the only unbeaten side in the land and they lead the first division by a single point from Menziehill.
“Our approach is to try and win the tournament, but given that we will not have a full squad on duty, there will be a combination of a some well known faced along with some new, we still hope to be competitive and play some good hockey,” said Neave.
The game of the day will undoubtedly be the clash between Inverleith and Menzieshill, a replay of last weekend`s league encounter, which ended with a narrow 4-3 win for the Edinbugh outfit. The sides were locked at 3-3 at the interval, but the winning strike came from Graham Moodie just two minutes into the second half.
But the Taysiders will be using the tournament for development purposes. Chris Anderson, Menzieshill`s coach, said: “The tournament will be used to develop the squad for the rest of the league programme, the play-offs and the forthcoming European Club Trophy in February. Consequently, I will be playing approximately 15 or 16 players over the weekend, built round the full squad.”
Scotland`s under 21 squad under head coach Graham Moodie and first division side Grange are the other two sides in the pool. Grange`s coach David Knipe has embarked on a youth policy this season and the Menzieshill tournament is another opportunity to give his youngsters experience. This innovation took a little bit of time to settle, but last weekend Grange moved off the basement of the table with wins over PSL Clydesdale, Dundee Wanderers and a fighting 2-2 draw with Inverleith.
The highlight of the women`s tournament will be tomorrow`s clash between city rivals Dundee Wanderers and hosts Grove. A week ago five goals from playmaker Vikki Bunce gave Wanderers a comfortable 8-3 win at the end, a win that takes them to the top of the first division at the festive break. The other sides in the pool include the national under 21 squad and Granite City Wanderers, currently in seventh place the league table.
The under 21 squad, coached by Neil Menzies, contains players who have already made a scoring mark in the first division, Amber McNeill and Kerry-Anne Hastings playing for CALA Edinburgh along with Dundee Wanderers` Jessica Ross.
