Funding for Clubs: Club Support Programme

Scottish Hockey clubs now have an exciting opportunity to unlock new funding streams that could transform their impact and accelerate the growth of the sport across the country.

With the launch of the sportscotland Club Support Programme, clubs are being invited to think boldly—developing collaborative, forward-thinking proposals that expand participation, strengthen communities, and build more inclusive, sustainable environments for players of all ages.

Whether by creating new roles that boost capacity or by reaching untapped audiences, these initiatives offer a powerful platform for clubs to shape the future of hockey in Scotland and bring the sport to more people than ever before.

Club Support Programme (sportscotland)

Successful business cases will be submitted through Scottish Hockey, with funding decisions managed by sportscotland. We are seeking business cases from at least one club (or a collaboration of clubs) in each region: North, Midland, East and West.

Collaborative, partnership-based approaches with other clubs and local communities are encouraged where practical, alongside clear plans for growth that align with the new strategy for hockey and the criteria for the fund.

Eligibility and what the funding supports

To be considered for the Club Support Programme via sportscotland, a club must be fully affiliated to Scottish Hockey and be able to evidence a clear, credible business case for creating a new paid post that adds capacity rather than replacing existing provision.

  • The post should deliver additional impact (e.g., growing participation, improving retention, strengthening governance, increasing inclusion) and contribute to stronger, safer and more sustainable clubs.
  • Clubs should be able to embed the post within their structure (or liaise with Scottish Hockey to host), support it appropriately, and evidence measurable outcomes and fair work practices.
  • Proposals are less likely to be supported if they are not SGB-affiliated, cannot clearly justify the need or added value of the post, replace existing volunteers/staff, or lack the organisational capacity to sustain and utilise the position effectively.

This is a collaborative process between clubs and Scottish Hockey. As the fund is likely to be oversubscribed, we will take a measured approach to submissions and will prioritise strong business cases—particularly where partnership working is demonstrated. For questions, please contact your regional lead in the first instance.

Summer of Sport

A number of other funding streams are also coming online, some with tight timescales. Scottish Hockey will make a strategic national submission to the Summer of Sport fund, aligned to the new membership informed strategy for hockey in Scotland and our vision that hockey is a game for everyone and a sport for life.

This fund, which is open to national partners, national organisations and Scottish governing bodies to apply for, is focused on breaking down barriers and reaching broader audiences, and this will sit at the heart of our submission. We will advise should we be successful in our submission.
