Excellent performance as Scotland women strike six against Wales

Scotland women were on top form as they kicked started this year’s campaign with a 6-0 victory over Wales at Peffermill.

The game got off to a quick start and it was Wales who had the first break on goal down the right, but the danger was well dealt with by the Scots defence.

As the opening quarter progressed the visitors enjoyed good possession and looked composed on the ball, but the Scots pressed hard and didn’t give them any time on the ball.

Jess Ross began to impose herself on the game and created some good moments for Scotland. Early in the second quarter Ross had Scotland’s first attempt on goal but her low effort from the top of the circle zipped just wide.

Then came the breakthrough. At the second phase of a penalty corner Jenny Eadie opened the scoring with a low rocket into the bottom right corner. 1-0.

The goals kept coming and Jika Nyirenda superbly put Scotland 2-0 ahead with a strike into the bottom left corner from a rebound from Sarah Jamieson’s powerful shot.

Millie Steiger then finished off a lovely move to make it 3-0. It was a lovely finish through the legs of the goalkeeper after a slick passing move.

Then a nicely worked short corner was finished off by Heather McEwan to put Scotland 4-0 ahead – the Scots were on blistering form.

Scotland continued to be dangerous in the second half, and it didn’t take long to find the net again. The ball was forced home from close range by Eadie for her second early in the third to put Scotland 5-0 ahead.

Scotland camped out in Wales half and piled on the pressure. Katie Robertson almost struck a sixth but her penalty corner strike went just wide of the left post.

The last goal of the game came in the final quarter when a composed low finish by Sarah Jamieson put Scotland 6-0 ahead with five minutes to play.
