Coach Education Workforce Model launched

The ‘Hockey Coaching Strategy Group for Great Britain’
today launched the Coach Education Workforce Model as part of its
vision to implement a world-leading coaching system that will
deliver active, skilled and appropriately qualified coaches to
every stage of player pathways.

The Hockey Coaching Strategy Group for Great
Britain on behalf of the home nations is proud to announce a
further step for Hockey across Great Britain by releasing their
Coach Education Workforce Model. This model is a simple guide to
the skills, education and training required to deliver on the coach
education programme, covering coach educators (tutors), assessors
and internal verifiers.
England, Wales and Scotland have been working
together to develop their Coaching System across Great Britain for
a number of years. The release in April of the Coach Development
Model has been received positively by coaching agencies and
colleagues in other National Governing Bodies.
The Coach Education Workforce Model is vital to
achieve our vision for hockey in that we need a highly motivated
and qualified education workforce to deliver coach education across
the Home Nations
Vision
‘By 2016 Hockey across Great Britain will have a
world leading coaching system, which will deliver active, skilled
and appropriately qualified coaches to every stage of our player
pathways’
Objectives
Increase quality & quantity of active
appropriately qualified and skilled coaches and coach
educators
Deliver the required number of coaching hours in
the player and coach pathways
Provide and promote the coach and coach educator
pathways
Increase participation, retention and standards
across the player and coach pathway
Benefits of the Coach Education Workforce
Model
The Model has been designed as a tool for potential
and existing coach education workforce personnel. It details the
environment (Level 1, 2 or 3)  , experience, training and
qualification standards required for each of the roles involved
(Educator, Assessor, Verifier)..  External qualification
standards are continually being upgraded and with this model in
place we would be able to respond with clarity and speed to make
sure our workforce is adequately trained and qualified.
The model has been developed in partnership with
England Hockey Board, Scottish Hockey and Welsh Hockey to be used
as a checklist for employment or as a supporting tool for aspiring
educators, assessors and internal verifiers.  It shows the
potential pathways for each role and how the workforce is supported
and developed when training has been attended.
The brand Hockey across Great Britain has been
created to promote the development of all hockey in the Coaching
System.

Scottish Hockey, England Hockey Board and Welsh Hockey have
been working together to develop this coaching system across Great
Britain for a number of years.

The release in April 2011 of the Coaching Strategy for Great
Britain Model
has been received positively by coaching agencies
and colleagues in other National Governing Bodies.

The addition of the Coach Education Workforce
Model
will be vital to achieving a highly motivated and
qualified education workforce to deliver coach education across the
Home Nations.

Colleen Reid, Coach Education Development Manager, said:

“The Coach Education Workforce Model is a great tool and gives
individuals an understanding of what is required to effectively
deliver coach education. The model is quick and easy to use, and
clearly demonstrates the skills, knowledge and experience required
to deliver coach education programmes and assessments.”
