Wales late equaliser in Lousada denies Scotland men victory
A late equaliser saw Wales hold Scotland to a 2-2 draw at Men’s EuroHockey Championship II in Lousada.
It was a very tight opening quarter but one where the deadlock would finally be broken by Wales. An attack down the right was finished off by Nicholas Morgan at close range for 1-0.
Scotland came close to an equaliser early in the second quarter through a Jamie Golden drag flick, but it was padded clear by the goalkeeper to keep the Scots at bay.
The equaliser soon arrived when Struan Walker pounced in between two Wales defenders to convert an unstoppable effort for 1-1.
Early in the second half Walker came close to a second when he sublimely took the ball down out the air, but his shot skimmed just wide of the left post.
In the final quarter Scotland took the lead. A lightning finish from a Walker at a tight angle found the roof of the net to make it 2-1.
The victory looked certain until 12 seconds left to play when Gareth Griffiths swept the ball into the net to equalise, and finish the game at 2-2.
