Scotland Emerging Girls 0-8 Belgium U16 Girls

Clinical finishing saw Belgium U16 Girls defeat Scotland Emerging Girls 8-0 at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre at the Summer 4 Nations.

Scotland made a great start to the contest. First Izzy Hogarth showed a lightning burst of pace on the counter to run through on goal and win a corner. Eva Hodge then unleashed a fierce strike which was saved at the bottom left corner. A second corner promptly followed, and another save low at the left post kept Scotland out.

Ava Graham was next to be denied by Celine Deprez in goal for Belgium after her deflected effort was thwarted by the goalkeeper.

Then a blasted effort by Maia MacAloney was blocked by Deprez at the near post.

For all of Scotland’s pressure it was a Belgian counter attack that broke the deadlock. A swift attack down the left was finished sweetly with a reverse strike high into the net to give Belgium a 1-0 lead.

It soon went to 2-0 when Agathe Favart launched a drag flick into the net to double their lead.

Two superb goal line clearances kept Belgium at bay but the third goal came soon enough.

An improvised assist was finished off at the far post with a tap in by Maylin Balon-Perin to make it 3-0 for Belgium.

Then a stroke was tucked away into the bottom left corner by Favart to make it 4-0 for Belgium as half time approached.

A string of fantastic saves by Morven Begg kept the Belgians at four at half time as the Scots took the chance to regroup.

After two fantastic saves by Maddie Shepherd Belgium began the second half with a goal. It was Favart once again with another drag flick finish into the bottom left corner. 5-0.

Begg was called into action at the start of the final quarter with a superb reaction save to deny a close range effort.

Belgium wouldn’t be denied for long and another Favart low drag flick into the corner made it 6-0 before a deflected finish by Aricia Lepomme made it 7-0.

In the final moments Emilie Verhees finished into the bottom left corner to complete the scoring at 8-0.

 

 

England U16 Girls 6-9 Germany U16 Girls

A quite unbelievable contest between England and Germany U16 girls ended in a 9-6 win for the Germans at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.

Germany edged the early play and broke the deadlock from a penalty corner routine. Franziska Pabsch fired a drag flick into the net to make it 1-0 early in the contest.

England battled back and Amelie Carter struck with a precise penalty corner strike zipping low into the net for 1-1.

As the quarter ended, Germany went back in front when Mai Steinebach thundered a tremendous low shot across the keeper into the bottom left corner for 2-1.

Then came a second equaliser for England when Biba Mills found the bottom left corner from the penalty spot to make it 2-2.

England nearly went in front but were denied by a world-class diving save to the right by the goalkeeper Ronja Siegel.

Germany finished the half in style with a quick-fire double to go 4-2 ahead. First Marie Buddenberg scooped the ball past the keeper after a great solo run and finish from the right, followed by a carbon copy run and finish from Katharina Seifert at the end of the half.

The third quarter was an even affair until Steinebach almost burst the net with a superb top corner finish to put Germany 5-2 ahead.

Germany finished the third quarter with a goal, the ball was blasted into the bottom left corner to move Germany into a 6-2 lead.

Quarter four was an absolute goal fest. England started the final quarter with a goal when Biba Mills swept home with a low finish to pull it back to 6-3.

Seifert then prodded the ball home at the near post for Germany to give them a 7-3 lead, after some neat build up down the right.

This was promptly followed by another German goal when Steinebach blasted home for 8-3

Biba Mills bit back again for England with a deadly finish on the turn to make 8-4 before Charlotte Rehmet immediately blasted the ball into the bottom left for Germany to make it 9-4.

England struck again as Biba Mills stroked home from the penalty spot into the bottom right corner to pull it back to 9-5. Then Biba Mills struck again for England with a sensational drag flick into the top right corner of the net for 9-6.

There would be no further goals and Germany took the points on day one in Glasgow.
