Wildcats claw eight against Giffnock
Western Wildcats clawed their way to a 8-1 win over a
youthful Giffnock in the women`s Peregrines Cup, there were
two goals each for Alex Stuart, sisters Kate and Alice McArthur,
while Kirsty Howe and Rachael Fergussen picked up the other
two. Cath Stirling got the consolation for
Giffnock.
Milne Craig Western seemed to struggle to a 2-1 win over CALA
Edinburgh, Jenny Eadie put the Glasgow side a goal up at the
interval, CALA equalised, but Eadie netted the winner with two
minutes remaining after a penalty corner routine that broke
down.
On Tayside Glynhill Kelburne emerged one goal winners against
VWS Dundee Wanderers, the latter had seven or eight chances that
were not taken while Kelburne`s keeper Cath Rae was on hand with
several saves. The winning goal came in the final ten
minutes, at a penalty corner there were three switches which
finally fell to Rachael Ewing who fired the ball home for the
winner for the paisley outfit.
VWS Dundee Wanderers, newly relegated from the top flight, made
an immediate impact in the men`s Aberdeen Asset Management second
division with 6-0 win over Alpha Data Carnegie in the opening
fixture of the new season. The Taysiders were only a
goal up at the interval through Rory Taylor, but the second half
belonged to Bobby Ralph who scored five times to give Wanderers a
convincing win.
Elsewhere, CALA Edinburgh fell 6-1 to Falkirk while Aberdeen GS
also notched up a half dozen against Highland.
Inverleith finished their Ulster tour with a 2-2 draw with hosts
Cookstown, Tom Cousins scored with a volley from the top of the
circle while Lewis Gibson had a simple tap in at the far post at a
penalty corner.
Glynhill Kelburne, without their ten international players on
duty, lost 4-1 to English side Bowdon in their build-up for both
the Aberdeen Asset Management national league and the
EuroLeague. The goal came from good work by Michael
Nicol and Jack Mckenzie, leaving Andy Bremner to score from a
rebound.
“The young boys who played gradually got used to the higher
intensity needed to play at that level, we are on the right track
and when the ten international players return, there will be a lot
of competition for places in the league games and EuroLeague,” said
Mark Ralph, Kelburne`s coach.
