Watsonians win the Open/men Scottish Cup Final in Glasgow
Watsonians won the Open / Men’s Scottish Cup Final with a sensational 3-2 victory over Edinburgh University. Sam Judge’s side fought back from 2-0 down to claim the trophy is a fantastic cup final performance
It was a feisty Edinburgh derby with both sides going toe-to-toe from the first minute of the game.
Expert penalty corner taker Jamie Golden opened the scoring when he launched a drag flick through the goalkeeper’s legs for 1-0 to Edinburgh University.
A second corner for the students saw Golden fire the ball into the bottom left corner for 2-0.
In the battle of the penalty corners Dan Coultas slammed the ball low against the backboard to pull one back for Watsonians at 2-1 in the second quarter.
In the second half Watsonians equalised through a fantastic turn and reverse stick strike by Charlie Jack to make it 2-2.
As the third quarter reached a conclusion the Watsonians fightback saw them take the lead when Nathan Liggett swept home at the near post for 3-2.
A late surge from the students couldn’t find an equaliser and Watsonians took the trophy back to Edinburgh.
Western Wildcats defeated Erskine Stewarts Melville Lions 2-0 to lift the Men’s Scottish Plate in Glasgow.
Western enjoyed good possession throughout the contest but it wasn’t until the cusp of half time before they opened the scoring. Iain McFadden struck a penalty corner into the net for 1-0.
A second penalty corner strike by McFadden doubled the Western lead and sealed the victory to lift the Plate.
An exceptional comeback from Hillhead 2s saw them beat Edinburgh University 2s 3-2 to win the Men’s District Cup.
The students raced into a 2-0 lead through Max Hamilton and Tom Steingold.
The Hillhead 2s comeback saw Murray McVicar; Grant MacMillan; and Craig Hilton score for a monumental 3-2 win.
The Men’s District Plate Final was won 4-1 by Erskine Stewarts Melville 2s against Giffnock. Peter Serle; Fraser Sturrock; Ethan Williams and Tom Clarke all found the net with a Ben McGarry goal for Giffnock sandwiched in the middle.
Clydesdale 3s defeated Watsonians 4s 3-2 to lift the Men’s Reserve Cup at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.
It was an even opening quarter with neither side creating any clear opportunities. The second quarter saw three back-to-back penalty corners awarded to Watsonians 4s but Gareth Tenner’s efforts were all charged down.
Clydesdale 3s opened the scoring in the second quarter when Scott Lindsay found the net. The Glasgow side doubled their lead in the third quarter when a Colin Moulson penalty corner hit the net for 2-0.
Andrew Littlejohn pulled one back for Watsonians 4s but a Neil Morton Lloyd penalty corner restored the two-goal cushion at 3-1
It went to 3-2 when Danny Prentice scored but Clydesdale 3s held on for the victory.
It took a sublime goal from Charlie Hamilton to give Hillhead 4s a 1-0 victory in the Men’s Reserve Plate.
