Share of the points at Bellahouston

SUBWAY NATIONAL LEAGUE

Grange held on to second place in the Subway national
league after a thrilling 3-3 draw with third placed Western
Wildcats at Bellahouston.

The only highlight in an eminently forgettable first half was a
brilliant reverse stick goal from 15-year-old schoolboy Hamish
Imrie following a pass by Duncan Batchelor to give Grange a slim
half time lead.

The Edinburgh side seemed to be heading for all three points
when Rob Barr scored from the spot three minutes into the second
half following a deliberate foul on Martin Johnstone.

However, a sin-bin rest for Grange captain Rob Barr was the
signal for a Wildcats` comeback, at their fourth penalty corner
Douglas Simpson fired home a low shot to bring the score back to
2-1, then a minute later the Wildcats were on level terms with a
fierce shot by Scott McCartney from the top of the
circle.    With Grange still reeling in disbelief,
Ian Moodie put the Wildcats into a 3-2 lead when his shot went into
the net off a defender`s stick.

In a frantic last few minutes, Steven Percy and Simpson had
chances for Western while at the other end Barr had two set piece
strikes blocked by the goalkeeper.  The equaliser for Grange
came in the final minute, Cammie Fraser`s pass eluded two Wildcat
defenders and a diving Duncan Batchelor fired the loose ball
home.  Western almost stole the show with an overtime penalty
corner but McCartney`s effort was brilliantly saved by Grange
keeper Colin Johnstone.

Inverleith maintained their challenge at the top of the table
with a 2-0 win against bottom side VWS Dundee Wanderers in a rather
physical encounter.  After a goalless first half, Chris Duncan
opened for the Edinburgh side from a penalty corner.  The
result was sealed with an open play strike by Ross Jamieson in the
closing minutes.

However, Glynhill Kelburne retained their perfect record with a
5-2 win over Greaves Clydesdale at Titwood.   The Paisley
outfit were two up at the interval through Michael Bremner and
Chris Nelson.   The league leaders added three more in
the second half through Jonny Christie (2) and Craig Morton,
Raymond Wrightson and Fraser Hirst getting the consolations for the
home side.

Grove Menzieshill kept their unbeaten home record with a
convincing 8-3 win over a depleted CALA Edinburgh side, Chris
Wilson scored a hat-trick, Olly James got two and there were others
for Ally Irvine, Michael Ross and Craig Falconer.

AMN Hillhead are now within three points of CALA next to the
foot of the table after drawing 0-0 with Edinburgh University.
