Senior Schools Cup Finals
Following the excitement of last week’s Junior Schools Finals, we’re now looking forward to the Senior Schools Cup Finals this Friday, 15 March. A large crowd is anticipated at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre to watch the eight matches. Entry is free, and food and drinks will be available for sale. The event will also be live streamed.

Road to the Finals
Senior Boys Cup
The boys’ final will be between the holders, Fettes College and Edinburgh Academy. Fettes have looked impressive in their cup matches this season, beating George Watson’s College, Stewart’s Melville and Loretto. Accies have been consistent, winning all their matches 3-0 against Glenalmond, Strathallan and Hutchesons.
Senior Girls Cup
The girls’ final promises to be a cracker, as Dollar Academy meet the holders Edinburgh Academy. The 2019 champions, Dollar knocked out St George’s and Mary Erskine’s before an impressive 3-0 semi-final win against George Heriot’s. The Academy girls beat Loretto, then The Glasgow Academy on penalties before a 4-2 win against George Watson’s in the semi-final.
Senior Girls Challenge Cup
It’s West v North in the Challenge Cup Final, as St Columba’s School from Kilmacolm meet Robert Gordon’s College. St Columba’s have scored 20 goals in their four matches since playing in the preliminary round in September. They’ve seen off Kilgraston, Earlston, Boroughmuir and North Berwick HS. Robert Gordon’s have been equally impressive, beating three Borders’ teams – Kelso, Peebles and Selkirk HS.
Senior Boys Plate
The Plate competitions are for teams who are knocked out in the first rounds of the cups. In the Boys’ Plate, George Watson’s College beat Robert Gordon’s before a 4-2 win against Strathallan in the semi-final. Their opponents, Stewart’s Melville have scored ten goals without loss in their two matches against Jordanhill and George Heriot’s.
Senior Girls Plate
Fettes College will meet High School of Dundee in the Girls Plate Final. Fettes beat St George’s before a dramatic win on penalties after a 3-3 draw against High School of Glasgow. The Dundonians, who won last season’s Plate, beat Hutchesons’ 2-1 then Strathallan 5-4 on penalties in the semi-final after a goal-less draw.
Senior Girls Challenge Plate
The Girls Challenge Plate sees a South v North match, as Galashiels Academy meet Albyn School. The Gala girls knocked out Kilgraston then St Margaret’s 2-0 in the semi-final. Albyn beat Gordonstoun 2-0 and Earlston 1-0.
Senior Boys Aspire Cup
The Senior Aspire Cup Tournaments took place in November, with the winners of each event in Edinburgh and Dundee qualifying for the finals.
The Boys’ match is a repeat of last season’s final between holders, High School of Dundee and Trinity Academy. The Taysiders beat local rivals Grove Academy 2-1 on penalties in a thrilling qualifying final, after winning their group. At Peffermill, Trinity Academy from Edinburgh beat Peebles HS in their final after knocking out Earlston and Dingwall in the group stage.
Senior Girls Aspire Cup
The Girls’ final will be between Ayrshire’s Marr College and McLaren High School from Callander.
Marr won the qualifier at Peffermill, beating Dingwall Academy 2-1 in a superb final. McLaren won the tournament at Dalnacraig, beating Aberdeen GS 3-0, after knocking out Perth Academy and Cults.
