Scotland women’s squad announced to face France in Marseille
The Scotland Women’s squad has been selected for a three-match test series against France, at Salon De Provences, Marseille.
The matches will be played at 6pm on Wednesday 19th July and Thursday 20th July, before they meet at 11am on Saturday 22nd July. The matches on the 20th and 22nd are capped matches.
The Scots are building up to the EuroHockey Championships in Monchengladbach, Germany, where Scotland will play in Group B against England; Germany; and Ireland, while the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, and Italy meet in Group A.
As well as an excellent series away to England, and two wins over Czech Rep, the Scots have played successful competitive test series’ already this year against Ireland and Wales, as well as matches against World number three ranked Australia, and top ten ranked China.
Head Coach Chris Duncan said, “After two really positive games against England, where we learned a lot about ourselves from a positive perspective, as well as the areas we have to sharpen up on. These games against France give us the ideal time to work on things in a really difficult and challenging environment. France is a team on the way up, they’re preparing for the Olympics, they’re well-coached and will be ready for playing us, which gives us good challenges.
“The heat in Marseille is significant right now; we’re also expecting heat in Monchengladbach so this gives us an opportunity to work out what approach we need to take to maximise our performances when it comes to the moments that matter. It’s also more match play opportunities of a different style, and a chance to focus on ourselves when we come up against different styles.
“It’s also more capped internationals for the players, it’ll be a first cap for Jika Nyirenda, and it really builds experience when you play capped matches, so we’re really excited for the opportunity to play, and hopeful for three really positive and progressive performances.”
