Scotland women’s squad announced for EuroHockey qualifier in Dunkirk
The Scotland women’s squad has been announced to compete at Women’s EuroHockey Qualifier D, in Dunkirk.
Scotland; Austria; France; and Switzerland will take centre stage in the tournament that runs from 24-27 August.
Scotland get underway against Austria in their opening game and their most recent encounter at EuroHockey Championship II, 2019, saw Scotland take the honours 3-0. France will be next for Scotland on 25 August and the Tartan Hearts will be hoping to emulate their last run out (2019) where they won 6-0. Scotland’s qualifying campaign ends on 27 August against Switzerland.
The team that finishes on top of the tournament will claim the coveted position, and take their place at the top table of European hockey. Second and third place will qualify for EuroHockey Championship II, and bottom place qualifies for EuroHockey Championship III.
Head Coach Chris Duncan said, “We were excited to compete at the Commonwealth Games, and put on a good showing of ourselves, but this summer has always been about the EuroHockey qualifiers for us. If we want to keep moving forward towards our goal of becoming a top ten nation, then we have to play against the best teams and that means qualifying for the EuroHockey Championships.
“It’s going to be a tough tournament, and a big challenge, but playing in Birmingham against Australia; New Zealand; Canada; South Africa and Kenya sets a great standard for this tournament. We need to bring the pace and quality of the Commonwealth Games to Dunkirk, and maintaining that standard can make us very difficult to come up against.”
