Scotland women strike another six against Malaysia at Peffermill

It was two wins from two for Scotland women over Malaysia with an excellent 6-0 victory at Peffermill.

Mhairi Low and Connie Roxburgh made their debuts in the match, played as the squad continued its build-up towards the FIH Hockey World Cup.

From the first whistle Scotland piled on relentless pressure, which saw Malaysia camped in their own half.

Ellie Mackenzie was causing problems down left with pace and quick stick skills.

It was MacKenzie who had the game’s first close chance with a slick turn and shot off left post.

The opening goal came soon enough and it was an Amy Costello low and powerful penalty corner strike against the backboard that made it 1-0.

Scotland’s dominance continued into the second quarter and Costello made it 2-0 with a low drag flick as the half ended.

Into the second half and Scotland continued to press and hunt for goals. MacKenzie was denied when her powerful shot looked destined for the top right corner but an excellent save stopped the goal.

As the quarter ended Ava Wadsworth smashed home another penalty corner strike to make it 3-0.

In the final quarter there was a debut goal for Mhairi Low as she pounced on a penalty corner rebound to scoop home for 4-0.

Scotland kept coming and made it 5-0 when Heather McEwan popped up in the right spot at the right time to pop the ball home.

Katie Birch added her name to the score sheet with a powerful low penalty corner strike into the bottom left corner for 6-0, and to complete the scoring.
