Scotland women clock up a 4-1 victory at Peffermill
Scotland women won the second of two training matches against GB EDP 4-1 as the Scots build towards an exciting summer at Birmingham 2022 and the EuroHockey qualifiers in Dunkirk.
The first chance of the match fell to GB EDP as the ball fizzed across the face of the goal but it evaded the stick of a player diving in attempting to convert.
Scotland grabbed an early goal when Amy Costello sunk a penalty corner strike low against the backboard. 1-0.
A swift counter attack saw Louise Campbell racing down the right before picking out Heather McEwan in the middle of the circle, but the goalkeeper was out quick and blocked well.
Scotland wouldn’t be denied a second for long and Campbell doubled Scotland’s lead when she pounced on a rebound off the goalkeeper to slot home for 2-0.
A third goal for Scotland came soon enough and it came when Heather McEwan forced the ball home from close range to make it 3-0.
GB EDP pulled one back through a lovely finish on the reverse to make it 3-1, which was how it remained until the half time break.
Sarah Robertson made it 4-1 early in the third quarter after converting a ball across goal by McEwan.
Fiona Burnet almost scored Scotland’s fifth as she arrived at the far post for a tap in, but the pass was too powerful to deflect into the goal.
Then a sensational pass on the turn by Jenny Eadie found Campbell but the keeper was out quick to foil any attempt at goal.
There would be no more goals and Scotland women finished up with a 4-1 victory at Peffermill.
