Scotland Aspiring Girls take clean sweep against Canada U18 Girls
Scotland Aspiring Girls made it two wins from two against Canada U18 Girls with a 3-1 victory at Peffermill.
The first chance of the match went to Scotland early in the first quarter when they won a penalty corner and a wonderful deflected effort by Amy Grassom was well saved. It however led to another penalty opportunity for the Scots, and this time they made it count.
Another well worked routine saw the ball fall nicely to Lexie Macmillan on the rebound to scoop home for the goal. 1-0.
Canada had an opportunity from a penalty corner of their own, but the powerful low effort was well blocked, and the danger cleared.
In the second quarter Scotland continued to apply pressure and it paid off with another goal. A low shot across the goalkeeper from the top of the circle saw Katie Brett find the net to make it 2-0.
Early in the second half a superb winding run by Anna Wennardt led to a penalty corner, which eventually led to a powerful low effort by Marianna Maclean zipping wide of the right post.
The third goal eventually came for Scotland, and from a tight space in the circle Macmillan fired home to make it 3-0.
Canada very quickly pulled one back through a solid low strike by Olive Bodel. 3-1 to finish the quarter.
A succession of corners for Scotland in the final quarter were well defended by Canada, with Sarah Hill coming closest with and overhead smash towards goal.
Macmillan almost added a fourth for Scotland when she slid a low shot under the goalkeeper, but a great recovery from a Canadian defender saw the ball cleared off the line, and the game ended 3-1.
