Rhett Halkett supporting Scotland men
Scotland men’s preparations for a busy summer schedule will be enhanced by the short-term appointment of Rhett Halkett. With Graham Moodie occupied with a busy men’s U21 schedule it was imperative that Scottish Hockey bolstered its coaching resources, and Rhett will assist Head Coach Derek Forsyth throughout the summer, which sees our men in action at the Commonwealth Games at Euro qualifiers at Uddingston.
Rhett who is currently the head of hockey and head of golf at Strathallan School has a prolific hockey CV. As an assistant coach Rhett is an Olympic gold medallist at Tokyo 2021; European Championship gold medal winners 2021, Amsterdam; and Hockey Pro League winners in the 2020/2021 Season.
As a player Rhett amassed a total of 155 international hockey matches for South Africa and captained his country 35 times. He has competed at the 2012 Olympics and the 2010 & 2014 Commonwealth Games.
On taking up the opportunity Rhett said, “I’m really grateful to Scottish Hockey for the opportunity to work with Derek and his staff as we and the team strive to achieve our goals over a busy summer of international hockey.
Derek Forsyth, Senior men’s coach said, “We are delighted Rhett has taken up the role of assistant coach for the senior men. He brings a wealth of experience from both playing and coaching at the highest level. We look forward to him bringing a fresh approach and challenging our current methods, which in turn will take the team to further success in the future.”
