Normal service at Forthbank
No upsets in the opening day of the Subway indoor
national league at Forthbank, champions VWS Dundee Wanderers, Milne
Craig Western and Grove Menzieshill all comfortably picked up full
points from their two games.
Western opened the day with a 8-2 win over newly promoted
Granite City Wanderers courtesy of four goals from Fiona Bruce and
a double by Kareen Marshall. The Aberdonians scored their
first goals in the top flight with strikes by Shiona Brough and
Chloe Thomas in the final couple of minutes.
Western followed up with an 11-3 win over CALA Edinburgh, there
were doubles for Bruce, Marshall and Susan McGilvray, Anna-Mae
Morton notched a hat-trick, while Amy Brodie got two for CALA.
A hat-trick by Louise Sherriffs in the first seven minutes set
Wanderers on their winning way against CALA Edinburgh, the only
other goal coming from Julie Bryce late in the second half.
Wanderers followed up with a 9-1 win over Granite City Wanderers,
there were three goals for Becky Ward, and two each for Bryce and
Rachel Osborne.
Grove were far from the festive spirit when they defeated their
second string 4-1. Teenager Louise Campbell and Ailsa
Wyllie put Grove 2-1 up by the interval, Rachael Campbell pulling
one back. The result was sealed with strikes by Louise
Carroll from the spot and Linda Clement early in the second half.
In their second match Grove beat Clydesdale 10-1 with Louise
Baxter, Linda Clement, Wyllie, Ali Bell doing most of the
damage.
The closest encounter of the first session provided a thrilling
6-6 draw between Glynhill Kelburne and Clydesdale. The
Paisley side looked to have the points sewn up at 6-5 only for
Jenny Eadie to equalise from a penalty corner with only three
seconds left on the clock. That late goal not only gave her
side a share of the points but completed the youngster`s hat-trick,
Ali Howie also scored a couple for the Glasgow side.
Kelburne`s main scorers were Laura Carlton and Amy Hislop, both of
whom netted twice.
Kelburne picked three points by beating Grove`s second string
4-1, their goals came from another double from Carlton, while
Hislop and Emma Barlow scored the others.
