Scotland men’s squad announced for FIH World Cup Qualifier in Santiago

The Scotland men’s squad has been announced for the FIH World Cup Qualifier in Santiago, Chile. 19 players have been named for the tournament taking place from 28 February to 8 March, as Scotland men aim to qualify for the World Cup for the first time.

Scotland arrive at the qualifiers in Santiago Chile with a squad that blends youth, form and growing experience on the international stage. Despite not having previously featured at a Men’s World Cup, the team has steadily built belief through recent campaigns.

The Blue Sticks are in a Pool with France; Wales; and the hosts, Chile, with a place at the World Cup the prize. Ireland; South Korea; Canada; and Poland form Pool B.

The teams finishing first, second, and third will secure their place at next year’s FIH World Cup. The highest world-ranked team among those finishing in fourth place in each event will be the seventh team to qualify.

Scotland recently enjoyed a win and a draw in a test series against Wales in Cardiff, providing an excellent warm up opportunity ahead of the qualification event. It builds on a successful 2025 where the Scots won the first ever FIH Nations Cup 2 in Oman.

Interim head coach Neil Allan said, “Following a tough selection camp, I am delighted to announce the 19 players who will represent Scotland at the Men’s World Cup Qualifiers. The players have worked incredibly hard to take on new concepts and ideas in a short preparation window. With weather limiting our opportunities to train, every session together has been vitally important, and the squad has responded brilliantly.

“The two test matches against Wales provided valuable opportunities to see players in competitive match play and helped to crystallise several key decisions. Reintegrating some experienced players has also strengthened the squad’s balance and overall dynamic, and their experience at the very top level of the game will undoubtedly benefit the group as a whole.

“The squad we have selected has an excellent blend of qualities and, despite their young average age, they bring significant tournament experience. They are an exciting group, and they have the ability and talent to qualify Scotland for the first time for a Men’s World Cup.”
