No change at the top
There was no change at the top of the women`s Subway
indoor national league as top sides VWS Dundee Wanderers, Grove
Menzieshill and Milne Craig Western all won both games as expected
while Reid Kerr College Kelburne consolidated fourth place with
wins over Clydesdale and Grove`s second string.
League leaders Wanderers did it the hard way, with their regular
goalkeeper Carmin Dow injured, they decided to play both games with
six outfield players, but still managed to see off CALA Edinburgh
7-4 and Granite City Wanderers 10-2.
Sarah Robertson gave CALA an early lead, but Wanderers
retaliated with three goals before the interval, Rachael Osborne ,
Louise Sheriffs and Julie Bryce were the strikers.
Despite the fact that Sam Sangster did a very creditable job as
kicking back, goals from Lucy Lanigan and Robertson brought the
scores level at 3-3. Wanderers stepped it up and Bryce,
Sheriffs and Amy Rowan gave the champions a 6-3 lead. Emma
Watson hit the target with a penalty corner which flew into the
roof of the Wanderers` net, but a goal by Bruce in the final minute
sealed the points for the Taysiders.
Wanderers then saw off Granite City with a hat-trick from
Sheriffs, two for Bryce and the rest were all singles.
Grove also picked up an easy three points from their second
string, Ailsa Wyllie scored two while the others came from Louise
Carroll, Leigh Fawcett, Jaime Lyon and Louise Campbell. A
12-2 victory over Clydesdale followed, Jaime Lyon got four, there
were hat-tricks each for Linda Clement and Wyllie while Fawcett
scored twice.
Western also started off with a comfortable 6-0 win over Granite
City Wanderers, Ellie Cockburn and Susan McGilveray both scored
twice while Anna-Mae Morton and Fiona Bruce. CALA was
much more of a struggle, especially when Amy Brodie gave the
Edinburgh side a half-time one goal lead. After the interval
Catriona Ralph equalised with a spectacular reverse stick shot and
with three minutes remaining Nicky Skrastin notched the winner.
Despite a hat-trick from Nikki Lloyd Kelburne beat Clydesdale
6-5. Emma Barlow and Amy Hislop both scored twice and the others
came from Laura Carlton and a last minute strike from Claire
McFarlane to seal the points. In their second outing the
Paisley outfit overcame Grove A 4-1 with Drew Berry getting a
double.
