Lots of premiership goals with little changes of position

GHK are back in fifth place in the women`s Premiership after a 5-2 win over Inverleith. The first half scorers were Laura McCabe with a reverse sweep, Lucy Williamson at a penalty corner and Maris Cawthorn with a tip in at another set piece. In the second half Emma Tennant added a fourth at a back post deflection while Lynsey Waddell finished off the scoring for GHK. Florencia Monte Burgos and Elise Miller at a penalty corner replied for Inverleith.

Further up the table leaders Watsonians were 6-1 winners over Glasgow University. It was 3-0 at the interval through Kirstin Murison, Sarah Jamieson and Emily Dark. In the second half Jamieson added her own second, while Beth Dodds and Katie Stott also scored while the students got one back at a penalty corner. Watsonians` coach Keith Smith paid tribute to Glasgow`s keeper Rachel Strachan for a string of fine saves.

Second placed Edinburgh University added to their impressive goal tally with a 14-0 win over bottom side Dundee Wanderers, Jika Nyirenda scored a hat-trick while there were doubles for Katie Robertson, Jess Ross and Itske Hooftman.

Clydesdale Western also stay in third spot with a 3-0 win at Gordonians, Holly Steiger got all the goals.

Western Wildcats recovered from their shock reversal at Glasgow University in midweek with a narrow 1-0 win at Grange, Alex Stuart scored the only goal in the second quarter, and they hold on to fourth spot.

Not much change at the top of the men`s Premiership, leaders Grange continued their unbeaten run with a 7-1 win at Kelburne. The Edinburgh side were four up at the interval, Aussie Dylan Bean and Fraser Heigh both scored doubles. Sam Hunt at a penalty corner replied for the Paisley side early in the second half but the league leaders were undaunted and Heigh added another two to his tally and John McCluskey was also on target.

Edinburgh University remain still two points behind Grange after thumping Uddingston 8-2, Declan Bradley was again top scorer with a hat-trick while Iain McFadden got two. And next weekend the students look forward to ending Grange`s hegemony.

There appears to be no stopping the striking ferocity of Western`s Andrew McConnell, he scored four in his side`s 9-0 win at Dunfermline Carnegie. The other scorers were Kyle Bannerman and Jack Mackenzie in the first half along with second half scorers Adam MacKenzie, Fraser Moran and AJ Lochrin.

Watsonians took on an outstanding goalkeeper and a vociferous crowd at Titwood and succumbed 3-0 to home side Clydesdale at Titwood, the result is that they lost their fourth place in the table to the Glasgow outfit. Euan Anderson and Ian King gave Clydesdale a two goal lead at the interval, and before Watsonians could mount a comeback Andrew McAllan added a third for the three points. All Clydesdale`s goals emanated from a tap in at the back post.

Hillhead`s hopes of holding on to a top six place ended with a belated strike by Charlie Jack to give visitors Inverleith a 3-2 win and leapfrog into sixth. Earlier in the contest Kyle Taylor and Livio Belotti twice gave Inverleith the lead only for John Reid and Ruari Thomson to reply before the late denouement.

Inverleith captain Ed Iffla said: “An extremely hard fought match from start to finish. A game that really could have gone either way. We`re delighted with our application and discipline which was ultimately rewarded with a winner in the dying minutes.”

At the bottom end of the table newly promoted ESM scored their first three points of the competition with a 3-1 win at FMGM Monarchs. The first half ended 1-1, Andrew Brogdon opened for ESM at a penalty corner but the Taysiders replied through Ross Glashan. However, in the second half Ed May put the Edinburgh side 2-1 up at a penalty corner and the result was sealed with Jamie Hogarth taking on the Dundee keeper and slapping the ball high into the net.
