Legs eleven for Menzieshill

Grove Menzieshill hit double figures twice against CALA
Edinburgh and Western Wildcats to secure their hold on pole
position in the Subway indoor national league.

In the opening fixture the Taysiders showed bottom side CALA no
mercy with an 11-1 defeat.  Although only three up at the
interval, Menzieshill stepped it up in the second half, there were
hat-tricks each for Gavin Byers, Josh Cairns and Ross McPherson,
the other goals came from Michael Ross and Gavin Tomlinson.

Five goals from Cairns was the highlight of Menzieshill`s 11-4
mauling of the Wildcats, Chris Wilson and Ross scored twice while
McPherson and Tomlinson got the others, the Wildcats` only real
response came from a hat-trick by Steven Percy.

Nearest challengers Inverleith overcame a banana skin fixture
with Glynhill Kelburne with a comfortable 10-2 win.   The
Paisley side never got into their stride and Inverleith were six up
by the interval, Chris Grassick opened with a double in first three
minutes, Callum Duke followed with a two, Adam MacKenzie scored
from a penalty corner and Chris Duncan scored on the stroke of
half-time.  The goals continued after the break, Grassick
picked up another two and Derek Salmond also scored twice.
Willie Marshall and Lee Morton scored late on, but that was little
more than a consolation for Kelburne.

In their second fixture the Edinburgh side struggled to see off
VWS Dundee Wanderers.  The scores were tied at 2-2 at the
interval, Grassick and MacKenzie`s strikes were cancelled out by
Euan Borland and Bobby Ralph from the spot.   Inverleith
took the game in the second half, Salmond and MacKenzie again
secured a 4-2 winning scoreline.

Inverleith drew within three points of leaders Menzieshill when
they defeated Clydesdale 10-5 in a catch-up fixture.
Five goals from MacKenzie and a couple by Graham Moodie was the
killer, while Adam Bain got two for the Titwood side.

Grange`s title aspirations took a nose dive when they were held
to a 6-6 draw by a plucky VWS Dundee Wanderers outfit.  The
Edinburgh side looked to have the match well in hand with a 6-3
half-time advantage, Cammie Fraser scored four times with Alan Law
and Phil Sully adding the others.  But Grange failed to find
the net at all after the break while Wanderers clawed themselves
back into the contest with two strikes by Bobby Ralph, he scored
four in the entire game, and veteran Paul Dailly to steal a share
of the points.

Grange recovered some of the lost ground when they defeated
Kelburne 8-4 in their second game.  Sully grabbed a hat-trick
while Fraser got two for the Edinburgh side, Willie Marshall`s
double was the highlight for the Paisley side.

Greaves Clydesdale and Western Wildcats served up a ding-dong
affair, with the Wildcats finally taking the match 12-7.  The
catalyst for the Wildcats was five goals from captain Dougie
Simpson while Steven Percy played a supporting role with four of
his own.  There were four goals also for Clydesdale`s Ciaran
Crawford with Fraser Hirst picking up a double.

Clydesdale then provided CALA with their first point in the top
flight after a 5-5 draw.  A hat-trick from Murray Paton was
the basis of CALA`s share of the points, Kevin Miller and Mike Rae
getting the others.  For Clydesdale, Crawford scored twice
while Liam King, Adam Bain and Hirst also scored.

CALA`s survival took no further steps forward when they went
down 9-3 to Dundee Wanderers in the final game of the
day.
