Kelburne shine, but Grange in the fog

SUBWAY NATIONAL LEAGUE (MEN)

Glynhill Kelburne showed why they are eight times Subway
national league champions with a convincing 5-0 win over fourth
placed Inverleith at Bellahouston.

In only eight minutes Alan Forsyth brilliantly picked up a long
ball from defence, his cross found Jonny Christie who found the net
with a low shot.  Willie Marshall made it two from a penalty
corner goal, and at another set piece Marshall`s softer shot this
time was stopped by the goalkeeper and Gareth Hall followed up to
make it 3-0 at the interval.

The opening five minutes of the second half was the catalyst, a
long ball by Ian Horsfield found Forsyth, his initial shot was
saved by keeper Graham Stuart but the international striker sunk
the rebound with a low shot.  Seconds later Inverleith were
awarded a penalty, but John Harris` effort from the spot was easily
saved by Mark Fulton.  The Paisley side continue to dominate
but failed to find the net again, until the final minute when
Christie found himself all alone in the circle and scored with a
fierce reverse stick shot.

Grange appeared to have put their runners-up spot in a bit of
jeopardy when they found themselves 3-2 down to an AMN Hillhead
side striving for survival, but the weather conditions came to
Grange`s rescue as the game was abandoned due to heavy fog after 46
minutes.  The Glasgow side took the game by the horns with
goals from Ryan Bell, Matt McIntyre and Andy Hilton from the spot,
Cammie Fraser and a penalty from Rob Barr was the Grange reply.

Western Wildcats continued to put the pressure on Grange for the
European spot with a 4-1 win over already relegated VWS Dundee
Wanderers.   Former international striker Scott McCartney
notched all four for the Wildcats while Scott Warden got the
consolation for the Taysiders.

Not a good day for the Dundonians as Menzieshill went down 2-1
to Greaves Clydesdale at Titwood.   Ciaran Crawford
opened for the home side with fierce shot from the top of the
circle, then Craig Falconer pulled the scores level.
The winner came from Raymond Wrightson with only two minutes
remaining.

CALA Edinburgh gave themselves a relegation lifeline with a 3-3
draw with Edinburgh University.  Despite two solo goal by
David Guy, CALA found themselves 3-2 down with only five minutes
left.  It was left to 15-year-old Lewis Fraser to provide the
equaliser with a fierce volley after Ramsay Bell`s initial shot had
been blocked.    The students are now safe, while
second bottom CALA are now only two points behind Hillhead.
