Grove Menzieshill on the verge of title win
Grove Menzieshill can clinch the Women’s Aberdeen Asset Management National League Division 1 title on Saturday if they win their top of the table clash against rivals Milne Craig Clydesdale Western (15.30, Titwood).
The Dundee side and defending champions sit top of the division with a perfect 100% win record and with two games to go, Charlotte Jones’ side are within touching distance of retaining their title in comprehensive fashion.
However, a win for the Titwood outfit on Saturday would delay the title celebrations and strengthen their grip on second place and the European qualification spot. They also take on CALA Edinburgh on Sunday (15.30, Titwood).
Meanwhile, fourth plays fifth with Dundee Wanderers away to CALA Edinburgh (14.00, Meggetland).
In the bottom half of the table, it couldn’t be closer between the five teams in the battle to avoid relegation and the play-off spot. Only four points separate sixth to tenth and this weekend’s matches will be crucial.
The crunch match is between bottom two sides Western Wildcats and Inverleith on Saturday (15.00, Auchenhowie), where a win for the Wildcats would place them four points clear of their opponents. Grange EL and Glynhill Hotel Kelburne also go head-to-head (13.00, Peffermill) with three points vital to both sides’ ambition to climb the league ladder.
On Sunday, Inverleith take on local rivals Grange EL (16.00, Peffermill), while Glynhill Hotel Kelburne are away to Giffnock (14.00, Hutchesons’ Grammar).
The four-way fight for promotion at the top of Women’s Aberdeen Asset Management National League Division 2 continues on Saturday.
Erskine Stewart’s Melville can reduce the gap on second place GHK Ladies to three points when both sides clash in a significant contest (12.00, Anniesland), while leaders Watsonians can maintain their lead at the top of the division if they can overcome Highland (13.30, Bught Park).
Hillhead Ladies will need to record an away win to Haddington (12.00, Aubigny Centre) if they are to stay in the hunt for promotion.
In Women’s Aberdeen Asset Management National League Division 3, title winners AAM Merlins Gordonians and second place Dundee University are promoted to Division 2.
The students play their final game against Stirling University on Sunday (14.30, Gannochy Sports Centre) and will be looking to round off their season with an away win.
In the other games, Stirling Wanderers are at home to Aberdeen Ladies (13.30, Forthbank) on Saturday while Bon Accord travel to St.Andrew’s to take on the university (12.00, St.Andrew’s University).
