Grand Finals line up confirmed
Women’s Semi Final
Watsonians 2-0 Glasgow High Kelvinside
A 2-0 victory for Watsonians over Glasgow High Kelvinside saw them book a place in the Women’s Grand Finals at the Glasgow National Hockey Centre.
The opening of the match saw Watsonians enjoy good spells of possession but matched by solid GHK defending.
Despite the Watsonians pressure the best chance of the quarter went to GHK after a swift counter down the left, but the pass into the circle evaded all attacking sticks.
In the second half GHK had a great chance to go ahead with another quick counter and the deflection from Emma Tennant zipped just wide of the target.
The opener eventually came in the third quarter and it was an Emily Dark drag flick into the bottom right corner that put Watsonians 1-0 ahead.
In the final quarter GHK took off their goalkeeper in the hunt for an equaliser but Watsonians took advantage on the counter and Fiona Burnet finished off into an open goal for 2-0. The goal completed the scoring and Watsonians will play in the Grand Finals.
Women’s Semi Final
Azets Clydesdale Western 4-0 Edinburgh University
An impressive 4-0 victory for Azets Clydesdale Western over Edinburgh University saw the Glasgow side book their place in the Grand Finals.
It was a blistering opening quarter for Clydesdale Western. Bronwyn Shields opened the scoring when she struck low from close range to give Clydesdale a 1-0 lead.
Then Emma McGregor then swept home from a penalty corner routine to make it 2-0 for Clydesdale Western.
The match evened out in terms of play in the second quarter as the students edged back into the contest, but no clean chances were created.
Clydesdale upped the tempo in the second half and furthered their lead in the third quarter with a lovely scoop over the goalkeeper by Jika Nyirenda for 3-0.
A penalty corner effort into the bottom right corner by Anna Hoolaghan made it 4-0 as the Glasgow side eased towards the Grand Finals.

Men’s Semi Final
Edinburgh University 5-0 Uddingston
A sensational goal scoring performance by Edinburgh University saw them defeat Uddingston 5-0 to earn a place in the Men’s Grand Finals.
The game started at a relentless pace with Edinburgh University edging the possession, but Uddingston matching them with an energetic defence.
It was in the second quarter that the students began to increase the pressure, and they could have gone ahead when Keir Robb was denied by a good save from close range.
The opening goal came soon enough and it was the inevitable drag flick from Jamie Golden that fizzed into the top right corner to make it 1-0 to Edinburgh University.
An outstanding finish into the roof of the net from Robb saw Edinburgh Uni to 2-0 ahead, finishing off a lovely passing move.
It went to 3-0 when Declan Bradley smashed the ball home on the turn, quickly forward by another turn and shot from Golden to make it 4-0.
A late fifth goal from Tom Cahalin completed the scoring to make it 5-0 secured their spot in the Grand Final.
Men’s Semi Final
Western Wildcats 4-2 Watsonians
Western Wildcats will play in the Men’s Grand Final after a 4-2 victory over Watsonians in Glasgow.
A blistering end-to-end start to the match saw both sides go toe-to-toe. The better chances went to Western from penalty corners but they were unable to convert.
Early in the second quarter Western found the net after some neat build up by Rob Harwood on the baseline set up Fraser Moran to pop the ball home and make it 1-0.
Then an unstoppable Iain McFadden drag flick made it 2-0 as Western put some daylight between the sides.
A different Watsonians team came out for the second half and they quickly got back on level terms through a penalty corner double by Daniel Cain. His first was sunk into the bottom left corner followed by a drag flick to the bottom right. 2-2.
A penalty stroke went to Western and McFadden found the bottom right corner to put his side back in front 3-2.
Western set out to finish the job in the final quarter and Moran was on hand to slam the ball home to make it 4-2 and seal the Grand Finals spot for his club.
