Golden strikes for GB EDP men in 3-1 win while GB EDP women defeated by India
Cammy Golden scored for the Men’s GB EDP in a 3-1 over India while the women’s GB EDP squad were defeated in a narrow loss to India.
Golden scored the second goal in the 3-1 victory while the other goals came from Tim Nurse and Duncan Scott.
Golden’s strike came from the spot after he was fouled on the point of shooting. The win ensure the men’s squad have maximum points from both games so far in the 6-Nations tournament.
The GB Women’s EDP couldn’t quite follow up their opening day victory at the Six Nations in Belgium as they just fell short against a tough India team.
Played in sweltering conditions in the Belgian city of Antwerp, Great Britain enjoyed plenty of the ball in the first half but couldn’t quite break through a stubborn Indian defence, meaning the game was goalless at half-time.
Their opponents then struck in the third quarter with three corners in quick succession, eventually deflecting home the third to take a lead they would not surrender for the rest of the game.
GB pushed hard to try and find the equaliser in the final quarter but once again were kept at bay, meaning they now have one win and one loss from their opening two games.
“The team kept possession well for large parts of the game but failed to execute on our forward play principles,” reflected women’s Head Coach Hannah MacLeod.
“We increased the tempo and intent in the last quarter which generated enough opportunities to win most games which is a real credit to the attitude of this group.
“This is the first time many of them have played India and at this stage of their development, it’s been a great opportunity to experience a different style of hockey.”
There are big games for both squads against the Netherlands coming up next.
