GHK move into the top four of the women`s Premiership
In the only game in the upper pool of the women`s Premiership GHK advanced their cause with a 2-1 home win over Wildcats, and consequently moved into fourth place taking over from St Andrews University for the moment. Lucy Williamson and Autumn Hunter were on target for the Glasgow club before Corrie Hay pulled one back for the Cats at a penalty corner…but the points went to GHK.
In the lower pool Grange, who just missed out on a place in the upper pool, were 2-0 winners at Aberdeen University who remain rooted to the basement. Grange`s goals came in the first quarter from Jen Cain and Rachel Shiel.
Hillhead remain firmly rooted to the relegation play-off spot after going down 1-0 to a single strike from Inverleith`s Amelia Wilson. However, it is a lifeline for the Edinburgh side who move up to ninth and gradually securing their own safety. It was described by Inverleith as “an incredibly tense match with a great performance from a depleted Inverleith side.” This was Hillhead`s take after they went one down in the third quarter. “We unfortunately then were unable to convert from a penalty stroke and just couldn`t get a goal back.”
There was some movement in the relegation issue at the men`s lower six of their Premiership – Clydesdale were 5-3 home winners over Dundee Wanderers at Titwood – a result that eased the home side`s relegation fears but did nothing for Wanderers. Johnny Bradley made a return impact to Clydesdale with a hat-trick while the other goals came from Ethan Robertson and Joel Reid while the Tayside scorers were Oscan Brown and a couple from Kennedy Gibb.
Inverleith also pulled themselves up from the relegation play-off spot with a 2-2 draw at Grove Menzieshill, their scorers were Andrew Clark and Stuart Hatton. The Taysider replies came from Findlay Duncan at a penalty corner and Jamie Spratt who deflected in a cross from Harry Mowatt. The Taysiders were unlucky not to take full points from the tussle as Inverleith`s equaliser came from an overtime penalty corner.
It was Hillhead who marched into the semi-final draw of the men`s Scottish Cup with a 2-1 win over Grove Menzieshill in Glasgow. The Taysiders took the lead in the third quarter but the equaliser emanated from a deflection by Matt Carder in the later stage. But with four minutes left Hillhead won the tie with a strike from Murray Ross. The Dundonians then took their keeper off in an attempt to rescue the tie but to no avail as Hillhead scored a third only for the strike to be disallowed…but they still emerged the winners.
