Esrkine Stewart’s Melville and Hillhead win plate competitions
Erskine Stewart’s Melville FP and Hillhead were the winners of the Arthur McKay Scottish Plate competitions at Peffermill today.
The Former Pupils claimed the Women’s Scottish Plate with a 2-0 win on penalties against Watsonians after the two sides had finished level at 1-1 following 70 minutes.

Jordana Emerson had given Erskine Stewart’s Melville a 1-0 lead in the 22nd minute following a penalty corner set-play. However, Nikki Stobie netted an equaliser for Watsonians in the 49th minute when she struck the ball sweetly past Anna Kellner.
Special mention should be made for Kellner, who continued to deny and frustrate her opponents with a string of outstanding saves in the second half.
With the full-time 1-1, the match went to running penalties, where Kellner was the heroine, saving all Watsonians’ attempts. Heather Clark and Tutu Osifodunrin got the vital strikes for Erskine Stewart’s Melville as they claimed the Plate completion.
In the Men’s Scottish Plate Final, Hillhead were too strong for Aberdeen GSFP as they ran out 7-2 winners.
Andrew Black opened the scoring in the seventh minute to make it 1-1 before Ewan Campell extended the lead to 2-0 in the 26th minute. Jamie Lynch-Small then gave the Glasgow side a commanding half-time lead with a third goal in the 33rd minute.
Nonetheless, the Aberdonians came back into the contest with two quickfire goals shortly after the interval; Rich Wright got his first goal of the game in the 36th minute to make it 3-1 before he finished off a great move in the 44th minute to get within a goal of Hillhead at 3-2.
However, Hillhead’s experince shone through as the closed the game out with four goals; Andrew Duke made it 4-2 in the 52nd minute, before Campbell got his second goal in the 60th minute.
A second goal for Lynch-Small in the 67th minute and Iain Hilton strike in the 68th minute made the final score 7-2.
