Clydesdale Western and Edinburgh University win Grand Finals in Glasgow

Women’s Grand Final

Watsonians 1-2 Azets Clydesdale Western

An excellent Women’s Grand Final saw Azets Clydesdale Western defeat Watsonians 2-1 to claim a spot in the EHL.

Clydesdale Western nearly scored at the end of the opening quarter after an exceptional delivery from Jenny Eadie, but Ava Graham was denied a goal on the hooter.

It was the perfect start to the second quarter for Clydesdale as Emma McGregor slammed the ball home across the goalkeeper for 1-0

Katherine Holdgate quickly equalised for Watsonians was a low penalty corner smashed through the goalkeeper for 1-1.

Clydesdale enjoyed good possession with Eadie in particular pulling the strings. As the pressure mounted a goal for Clydesdale seem imminent and it came soon enough. Fiona Semple took the ball on the turn and smashed home to make it 2-1.

Watsonians dug deep to find an equaliser but Clydesdale weathered the storm and took the victory.

 

Men’s Grand Final

Edinburgh University 3-1 Western Wildcats

Edinburgh University won the men’s Grand Final with a 3-1 win over Western Wildcats, claiming the EHL spot.

Western Wildcats started well and played some neat hockey but as the quarter continued the pendulum began to swing towards the students.

The game’s first chance produced the first goal and it was Edinburgh University that found the net. A trademark Jamie Golden drag flick found the net for 1-0.

Western Wildcats struck an equaliser early in the second half. Some excellent work by Rob Harwood on the right baseline saw the ball find Adam MacKenzie at the far post to slap home for 1-1.

Edinburgh University went back in front with an unstoppable drag flick into the roof of the net for 2-1.

Moments later another penalty corner went to the students and the inevitable happened. Golden’s third drag flick of the day found the back of the net to make it 3-1, sealing the victory.

 

 

 

Women’s Premiership / National League promotion / relegation playoff

Hillhead Ladies 3-1 Grove Menzieshill

A 3-1 victory saw Hillhead Ladies retain their Premiership status in the playoff against Grove Menzieshill.

Hillhead took the lead in the opening quarter when a long pass sent Julia Baldwin bearing down on goal and she picked out the bottom left corner for 1-0.

The second quarter brought a second goal for Hillhead and a lovely deflected finish by Bayley McAnkrah from a penalty corner made it 2-0.

Late in the half Grove Menzieshill pulled one back from a penalty corner strike by Isla McRobbie to make it 2-1 at the break.

Grace Rettie had a goal chopped off for Hillhead as they pressed for a two-goal cushion, but that cushion would be earned soon enough through a Jenny Campbell penalty stroke into the bottom right to make it 3-1.

 

 

Men’s Premiership / National League promotion / relegation playoff

Dundee Wanderers 0-2 Dunfermline Carnegie

Dunfermline Carnegie won promotion to the Men’s Premiership with a 2-0 victory over Dundee Wanderers in Glasgow.

Carnegie came out firing and enjoyed good possession from the first whistle.

The opening goal eventually arrived and it was a drag flick from Aidan McQuade into the bottom right corner to make it 1-0 to Carnegie.

The game got feisty as the clock ticked down and a green card was awarded to Wanderers. Immediately Carnegie capitalised as Ross Meldrum rounded Gareth Birrell in goal to make it 2-0 at the end of the third quarter.

A late surge was well managed and Carnegie earned promotion with a great victory.

 

 

Women’s Championship Playoff

Heriots Trinity 1-3 Glasgow University 2

Glasgow University 2s were promoted to women’s Championship after a 3-1 victory over Heriots Trinity in Glasgow.

Hattie Nieper opened the scoring in the 12th minute to put the students ahead before Geogina Mabbott doubled their advantage to make it 2-0.

Heriots pulled one back through Christy Thomson but a penalty corner finish by Ellis Marriott converted a penalty corner to complete the scoring at 3-1, and seal promotion.

 

Men’s Regional Playoff Grange 2s 3-0 Watsonians 3s

An excellent 3-0 victory saw Grange 2s defeat Watsonians 3s to retain their Men’s Regional status in Glasgow.

Flo Garland-Hoff opened the scoring for Grange 2s early in the second quarter from a penalty corner routine.

The advantage was doubled when Simon Ewing sunk a penalty stroke against the backboard for 2-0.

The win was sealed in the final quarter through Harrison Murphy to give Grange 2s an excellent 3-0 win.
