Club Hub launched: Scottish Hockey’s new club affiliation support tool
Scottish Hockey is delighted to announce its new online platform to support club affiliation. Club Hub offers valuable learning and development opportunities for committee members to enhance their skills and knowledge, in critical areas such as committee operations, safeguarding and member safety.
Targeted at committee members, Club Hub gives committees the resources and support they need to affiliate efficiently, and to ensure high standards of governance are met for the season ahead.
All hockey clubs must affiliate with Scottish Hockey to ensure compliance with safeguarding, safe delivery, and good governance standards. The affiliation is essential for maintaining the integrity and safety of the sport and protecting all participants.
In 2022, Scottish Hockey outlined its ambitious ‘Reset, Build, Excel’ vision of elevating the sport to unprecedented levels of success over the next decade, and Club Hub has a hugely important part to play in improving the level of support Scottish Hockey can provide and enhance club governance in Scotland.
The strategy involves a commitment to organisational cultural change, strategic transformation, with unprecedented excellence, and Club Hub will support clubs to transform their operations, become robust, and ultimately, give clubs the tools to success.
Lorna Esson, West Regional Manager (RM), Scottish Hockey, said, ‘The Club Hub is a one stop shop for all a club’s needs, it’s been a great opportunity to develop this resource over the past year and hopefully it becomes every committee members go to for support, balancing RM engagement and clubs’ own proactive solutions.
’A number of clubs were involved the in a consultation period where members completed the course and fed back key changes which gave us the opportunity to design a resource truly fitting to the various clubs’ needs.’
This evolutionary learning platform has been built in conjunction with sportscotland utilising its Brightspace digital learning officers. The Club Hub has various topics each committee member (President, Secretary, Treasurer and Safeguarding Officer) will complete along with access to supporting resources, guidelines and templates.
This process now becomes part of Scottish Hockey’s affiliation each season. This is important as we require all clubs to have the same baseline knowledge and understanding of governance and have the current standards and policies in place. Failure to complete the affiliation process results in no access to Scottish Hockey funding opportunities or entry to competitions.
Club presidents, secretaries, treasurers and safeguarding officers must complete the training and upload their certificates to their Sport:80 profiles. Enrolment for the Club Hub portal can be found on Sport:80 under the courses tab. Please note, admins must ensure their committee roles are assigned to allow permissions to enrol.
