Chief Executive, Scottish Hockey

Salary circa £65k-70k

Scottish Hockey is the national governing body for hockey in Scotland and works hard to develop the sport across all levels, from grassroots to performance development programmes for our national teams, which feed into Team Scotland for the Commonwealth Games, and to the Great Britain programme.

The leadership team, based out of the National Hockey Centre in Glasgow, works hard in partnership with our clubs, districts and schools to inspire involvement in hockey. Our aim is to be one of the top three team sports in Scotland, across all aspects of the sporting landscape, including membership growth, equalities and international performance.

The current Chief Executive has recently left the organisation after a very successful seven years to take on a new role.  Therefore, we are looking for an outstanding person to take over the reins and run this exciting organisation.  The successful candidate will lead our sport in its recovery from the Covid-19 pandemic, leading our sport through continuing grassroots growth, and towards success at the Commonwealth Games and international hockey tournaments.

You will be an inspirational and accomplished leader of people, with the ability to adapt your style to all of our stakeholder groups. You will have experience of strategic thinking and direct involvement in developing and implementing strategy. You will also have the ability to ignite a passion in the wider team of volunteers and in our performance and grassroots membership.

You will be joining a focussed and skilled leadership team which has significant experience in the sport and governing body, and so direct ‘industry’ experience is not essential.  You will be able to demonstrate your experience in retaining, developing and attracting exceptional talent to build on the cohesive and effective team. Experience and an understanding of the key drivers of a membership organisation and the challenges and opportunities that structure creates would, however, be highly relevant as would some knowledge of diversifying income streams, including sponsorship opportunities, and complex stakeholder management structures.
