Action-packed BRAVE Cup 2026 day two in Glasgow

Aspiring Boys – Thunder 4-4 Lightning

A game of drama and quality opened day two of BRAVE Cup as Thunder and Lightning drew 4-4 in the Aspiring Boys competition. The shootout bonus point went to Thunder after a close shootout.

Lighting started the match strong and pinned Thunder back for stages of the opening quarter.

The first goal of the game soon arrived when Noah Gray fired a drag flick into the top left corner for 1-0 to Lighting.

Thunder staged a late attack to end the quarter on a high but couldn’t find the net.

It went to 2-0 early in the second quarter when a Lighting stroke by Angus Fletcher found the bottom right corner.

Lighting went 3-0 ahead with half time approaching when Greg Wardlaw fired into the bottom right corner clinically.

A stroke was awarded to Thunder with seconds of the half remaining and Nicholas Richmond sunk it low for 3-1.

Lighting started the second half with a goal but Thunder struck back immediately through Oscar Lochrin for 4-2.

Thunder struck again with a powerful low penalty corner into the bottom left corner by Tom Hunt to pull it back to 4-3.

There was late drama as the final hooter approached and Thunder struck an equaliser for 4-4. Thunder took the bonus point after a shootout victory.

 

Aspiring Girls- Thunder 2-3 Lightning 

Lighting took a 3-2 victory over Thunder in the Aspiring Girls BRAVE Cup.

Lightning edged the early play and enjoyed good possession, but clear chances were few and far between.

The second quarter saw Lightning continue to press and valiant Thunder defending kept them at bay.

Eventually Lighting managed to break down the Thunder defence and took the lead as half time approached. 1-0.

Thunder quickly equalised through a powerful Kate Kellock penalty corner strike on half time. 1-1.

The third quarter was end-to-end with both goalkeepers called into action. Thunder had a great opportunity to take the lead from the penalty spot and Bayley McAnkrah stepped up to sink the ball into the roof of the net. 2-1.

Lighting found an equaliser midway through the final quarter and it came through a turn and finish by Bella Lockwood. 2-2.

Then Lightning took the lead from the penalty spot when Hannah Law found the bottom right corner for 3-2.

 

Emerging Boys – Thunder 1-1 Lightning

The BRAVE Cup emerging Boys contest between Thunder and Lightning ended 1-1 with Thunder taking the bonus point in the shootout.

The opening quarter was very even with neither side taking control of the game. Lighting had a couple of penalty corner opportunities but couldn’t fashion a clean chance.

In the second quarter Thunder had the chance to attack from a penalty corner and a goal line clearance denied them the lead.

The second half saw the game open up and both sides began to create chances for strikes at goal. Thunder then took the lead when Lewis McCarthy pounced in the circle to smash the ball home for 1-0.

The Lighting equaliser came in the final quarter. A powerful low Charlie Windsor-MacKenzie penalty corner slammed against the backboard for 1-1.

A feisty end to the contest couldn’t produce any further goals and it ended a draw.

 

Emerging Girls- Thunder 3-5 Lightning 

It was goals galore in the Emerging Girls as Lightning beat Thunder 5-3 in Glasgow. Lightning won the bonus point in the shootout.

In the early stages Thunder edged the play but a penalty corner opportunity went the way of Lightning, though it was swiftly dealt with by the Thunder defence.

Early in the second quarter Lighting took the lead when Isla Lloyd finished off a lovely team move into an empty net for 1-0.

As half time approached, Lloyd scored hers and Lightning’s second goal of the game, finishing off another well worked build up for 2-0.

Thunder looked the part in the third quarter and quickly dug themselves back into the match. A swift counter down the right allowed Georgia Young to cut inside and sweep the ball home for 2-1.

Within the blink of an eye Thunder equalised and its was a Young pass to the far post that allowed Eva Cowan to tap home for 2-2.

Then Lightning were back in front when a penalty corner strike rebounded off a Thunder player and over the line for 3-2.

In the final quarter Lightning furthered its advantage with an excellent sliced finish across goal by Anna Anstead to make it 4-2.

The win was secured by a lovely solo run and near post finish by Kay Sinton for 5-2 before Thunder pulled one back late to make it 5-3 and complete the scoring.
