Youth results in Wales
A 1-1 draw against Wales in the first of three under 16
test matches in Wrexham was hardly the result that coach Bill
Robson was looking for considering how much the Scots youngsters
dominated proceedings.
Scotland had by far the better of the first half but found
themselves a goal down.  Robson`s charges continued in the
same vein after the interval, Wales were never in the Scottish
circle and eight penalty corners were squandered.  Eventually
the equaliser came, Mary Erskine`s  Kerry-Anne Hastings
started the move up the right, the ball was then transferred on to
Fiona Burnett on the base-line, and her cross was slipped past the
Welsh keeper by Eilidh Thomson of George Watson`s school and
Inverleith.
The Scotland boy`s development squad did well, they beat Wales
3-2 in their first encounter.   After going a goal down,
the Scots retaliated, Ross Buchanan set up the chance on the
counter-attack and Strathallan`s Charlie Mearns equalised before
the interval.   The Scots went 2-1 ahead after the break
with another Buchanan to Mearns move, leaving the latter to score
with a diving conversion.   Highland`s Hamish Townsend
had an excellent game, including saving a penalty stroke, but was
beaten to allow the Welsh to make it 2-2.   The winner
came five minutes from the end, a drag flick at a penalty corner by
CALA Edinburgh`s Cameron Good into the roof of the net was a
fitting finale.
