Wonderful donation to the Scottish Hockey Heritage Group
Valerie Crombie, a former GB/Scotland internationalist and captain, presented a very generous £1000 cheque to Jenny Grassick, Chair of the Scottish Hockey Heritage Group, and Martin Shepherdson, Chair of Scottish Hockey, on the 30th November at The Grange Club in Edinburgh.
Jenny said, “We are absolutely delighted with Val’s very generous donation. It will be best used initially, for supporting the development of the Scottish Hockey Heritage Group’s (SHHG) website and social media channels, including YouTube.
“Val is also keen that it may support activities, as part of the 125 year celebrations of the foundation of Scottish Hockey, in 2025.”
Val has also offered to be a volunteer helping the Scottish Hockey Heritage Group.
Val played international hockey 1960-68, including in 1965 with the first ever GB women’s team, who toured and played along the East coast of the USA.
You may have seen Val last April featuring on BBC Alba on the excellent, Cold War Hockey, documentary.
In September 1961 the Scotland women’s team played West Germany in Berlin, just weeks after the construction of the Berlin Wall, which physically and ideologically divided Berlin with a concrete wall. Val and Jenna Park were flown back to Berlin to see the remains of the Wall and the Olympic Stadium where they had played 60 years earlier.
Anyone wishing to volunteer to help the SHHG should contact Jenny on [email protected]. The group is particularly keen to enlist support in the following areas: archives, IT/website, social media, oral history, memories.
