Women`s Premiership title still on ice
Early and late penalty corner strikes by Cat Nelli put paid to Clydesdale Western`s aspirations for an early hold on the women`s Premiership title as Edinburgh University were 2-1 winners in Thursday evening`s catch-up fixture.
This was Clydesdale`s first reversal of the season but they still remain in pole position for their first title since 2014.
The Titwood-based side still hold that five point lead over Watsonians and the two sides meet head to head on Saturday. The door has slightly opened for Keith Smith`s charges but they must win on Saturday if they hope to retain an interest – a draw will not do, and simply send the silverware to Titwood.
The Edinburgh students are now back in the top four, Thursday`s win put them two points ahead of Wildcats but that is still all to play for with two games left.
In the lower echelons Inverleith had a convincing 5-1 win over Uddingston and have officially left the relegation spectre behind them.
Rachael Campbell was top scorer with a brace while the others came from Elise Miller, Hannah Law and Chloe Richardson in what was described as a “really solid performance with some great build-up play to create some team goals.”
